ALL hail the Rhyl Academy football squad who have just returned from winning an international tournament in France.
Clubs from Holland, Belgium, England, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Wales' only entrant - sunny Rhyl - competed at the prestigious event in Hazebrouck.
In their opening group game, the Rhyl Under-14s drew 0-0 with USM Marly and followed up with a 1-1 draw against St Omer, Ben Maher netting from the penalty spot.
Maher then notched a hat-trick in Rhyl's 8-0 hammering of RUS Beloeil of Belguim in the final group game, Sam Lee (2), Gaz Royles, Chris Marsden and Jordan Bellham sharing the rest.
The situation going into that last game of the group stages was to progress Rhyl had to win by more than four goals and hope that USM Marly and US St Omer drew.
The French teams shared a 0-0 split and Rhyl did the necessary with their eight-goal success so went on to play Gillingham FC in the semi-final.
In a tight encounter Bellham's last minute goal sealed a 1-0 victory to take the North Walians into the final.
Just before the final there was a massive parade and national anthems for both finalists with a crowd of around 500 in attendance.
In the final Rhyl took on hosts SC Hazebrouck, but despite dominating the game, with Maher striking the bar from 25 yards in the second half, the match ended 0-0.
So it was down to penalties and Rhyl's heroic keeper Robbie Rimmington saved two. Marsden and Bellham scored, and Jordan Frazer put away the winning spot-kick to seal the tournament for Rhyl. Cue the celebrations!
Rhyl came away with trophies for group winners, best defence, the two best coaches and two overall first place winners.
Coaches Lee Jones, Graham Duffield and Jonathan Evans were very proud of their players. They worked extremely hard in every game and stuck to the game plan.
"This is a massive achievement for Rhyl Academy - and we hope to go back next year and retain the title," commented a proud Jones.
Squad: Robbie Rimmington, Christian Wright, Josh Parry, Jordan Bellham, Jordan Frazer, Liam Truesdale, Luke Astley (captain) Chris Roberts, Ben Maher, Joel Roberts, Gaz Royles, Chris Marsden, Sam Lee, Connah Atkinson.

The Dave Jones Collection of Clocks....
Impeccable timekeeping, only ever five hours fast!
Reliable to the second (give or take five hours)
An ideal gift for anyone who cannot tell the time!
Dave says:
"These clocks are from my very special collection. They are way ahead of their time, especially where football matches are concerned.
"These very same clocks were used in Reginald Perrin's Grot Shops. You can afford to miss out! Buy one today."
Purchase your clocks from Belle Vue on any match day, but make sure you turn up at 2.30 and not 7.30pm.
Dave adds:
"If you think these are the genuine article, I'm winding you up.
"And no, they are not available on tick"
RHYL manager Greg Strong has praised Lilywhites fans for their fantastic support at Belle Vue today.
"Our fans were magnificent," he said. "I asked for a big crowd today and their reaction was fantastic.
"Throughout a very difficult season for the club our supporters have been outstanding; we so wanted to do well for them and it meant so much that they gave us a tremendous reception when we left the field despite the result going against us."
There was a crowd of 587 at Belle Vue today and the fans cheered themselves hoarse throughout. It went down extremely well with the club, thanks to all concerned.
THIS is the last appeal to Rhyl supporters not to turn up at Belle Vue at 7.30pm tonight!
The game against TNS took place this afternoon at 2.30 and sadly the Lilywhites lost 2-1.
Unfortunately the local weekly papers stated today's match was on at 7.30pm. It was our mistake and boy do we know about it!
People who never normally say a word to me were only too happy to point out the error at today's game.
One individual, who I've never given the time of day, was even heard to say the papers should give Rhyl FC financial compensation for affecting the crowd.
What a load of cack! Since the weekly papers appeared, several media have carried the correct kick-off time, including this blog, the club's other two websites, the Welsh Premier website and the Daily Post stated TWICE today that the kick-off was 2.30pm.
One herbert even tried to tell me that the Post had stated the wrong kick-off time.
Poppycock! In both the match preview and the fixtures 2.30pm was clearly stated.
If you are THAT much of a Rhyl fan you'd have known the game was on at 2.30pm.
Of course an error was made, and we apologise, but you can only say sorry so many times.
Well, one good thing will come of this. I'll certainly be more meticulous in future when announcing kick-off times, a rare mistake it was, but a mistake all the same.
As I speak, I am already booking my first Timekeeping night class at Llandrillo College.

RHYL 1 (M Williams 53)
THE NEW SAINTS 2 (Ruscoe 45, Sharp 90 + 4)
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE - APRIL 2, 2010
FOOTBALL can be a cruel game.
You lose a key player just before half time through a very harsh sending-off, then the subsequent free-kick ends up in your net with the help of a big deflection.
Then you bounce back in the second half, score a great equaliser, defend heroically, even threaten a winner on the break and then....the opposition score a winner in the final minute of injury time to leave you devastated.
Let's take nothing away from TNS. They are a good all-round side, excellent on the ball and they will surely end up as worthy champions.
But today, for pure guts and resilience alone, Rhyl were definitely worth a point.
TNS were soon into the stride, but the Lilywhites matched them in most departments and created a few early openings.
Andrew Pearson's lovely pass found Andy Owens in space, but from the left hand side of the box he blasted high and wide.
Martyn Naylor's cross from the right was met by the head of Pearson, and Matthew Williams' shot on the turn would have tested the keeper but was blocked.
From a short corner Chris Williams delivery from the left was met by the head of Matthew Williams but the ball went well wide. Not clear chances, but encouraging nonetheless.
Then on 20 minutes TNS had their first serious effort on goal when Tommy Holmes' shot was deflected wide.
From the subsequent corner, Steve Evans had a free header but was unable to find the target.
The first on-target attempt of the match came on 24 minutes when the excellent Naylor burst forward and hit a firm low drive which Paul Harrison saved comfortably.
Referee Lee Evans started throwing yellow cards around like confetti, not allowing for the slippery conditions, before Rhyl's clearest opening fell on 34 minutes.
A lovely pass from Greg Strong picked out Matthew Williams in space, but his left foot strike was smartly kept out by Harrison.
Then, a big turning point. In the 44th minute Phil Doran, who had already been booked, slid in on Jamie Wood just outside the box. There appeared to be minimal contact, but Wood took a tumble and Evans showed Doran a second yellow.
Again, the conditions should have been taken into account, plus the fact Wood appeared to be "looking" for the free-kick, but Rhyl were down to 10.
To add insult to injury, Scott Ruscoe's free-kick took a big deflection and ended up in the net. Cruel.
HALF-TIME: Rhyl 0 TNS 1.
The start of the second half saw Jack Cudworth do well to deny Wood, but Rhyl were in determined mood and levelled the match on 53 minutes.
Mark Connolly's slide-rule pass picked out Matthew Williams who lashed home a cracking strike from the left-side of the box for his 21st goal of the season.
Saints rallied and Wood volleyed just wide, Sharp's firm hit was punched away acrobatically by Cudworth, then Tommy Holmes' powerful effort rippled the side-netting.
Rhyl had an opening when after playing a one-two with Connolly, Chris Williams was in on the keeper, but instead of chancing his arm he was coerced into being forced wide and had to settle for a corner.
Cudworth did well again to save from Ruscoe, then a great pass from Chris Williams found Connolly who let fly but just missed the goal.
Evans' 25-yarder was kept out by Cudworth, who then did well to grasp the rebound with substitute Steve Abbott closing in.
When Tommy Holmes headed wide from an Alex Darlington cross with the clock showing 92 minutes, it looked like TNS' last hope of a winner had gone.
But champions-in-waiting never stop coming and in the 94th minute Darlington picked out Sharp who drilled a right-foot shot across Cudworth into the far corner.
And that was that, but the applause the Lilywhites received from their brilliant fans as they left the field reflected the performance the home side had put in.
RHYL: Cudworth, Naylor, Doran, Strong, Dowling, Leah, C Williams, Pearson, Connolly, M Williams, Owens. Subs (unused): Owen, Ojapah, Kirk, Ballard.

RHYL v THE NEW SAINTS
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE
FRIDAY 2.30pm
FIRST of all I just wanted to make it clear Rhyl's Good Friday meeting with The New Saints kicks off at 2.30pm.
Yes, I know it stated 7.30pm in the Visitor this week, and yes it was my mistake. Seeing the game was on a Friday, I just naturally assumed it would be a 7.30pm start, but sadly it slipped my mind that it was actually Good Friday.
One thing about Rhyl FC, though, when you make a mistake they don't let you forget it so on behalf of myself I say.....SORRY!
I've previewed the match in the Daily Post tomorrow and just hope I've remembered to put 2.30 otherwise I'll be in for another bashing from the Correction Police!
Right...to the game.
Rhyl will be seeking to gain revenge for a 4-0 defeat at Park Hall last November as well as grab a psychological advantage ahead of the League Cup final between the clubs at the end of this month.
It will be far from easy, though. The Saints are seven points clear at the Welsh Premier summit and are definitely the best team I've seen in the league this season.
The Lilywhites will probably still be without Rob Turner, whose groin strain suffered in the Neath game last month is taking longer to recover than hoped.
Otherwise the champions should be at full strength and player-manager Greg Strong is in a typically positive mood.
"As a player and a manager I want to test myself against the best and I'm looking forward to the game," added Strong.
"They (TNS) are top of the tree and currently the best in the league; they are not there by fluke and we know how hard it's going to be, but of course I believe we can get a result if we do what we can do.
"We were disappointing at Caersws last week, but time is a healer and we've got to move on.
"Our players won't need any motivating for this one - if they do then there is something wrong."
Today's clash will feature a totally different scenario to the last time the teams met at Belle Vue.
Almost 12 months ago Rhyl took to the field as champions with TNS reduced to bit-part players, but things have changed this season and a win today would edge the Saints ever closer to the title.
DON'T FORGET - KICK OFF 2.30pm!

RHYL 2 (M Williams 60, Owen 74)
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE - MARCH 27, 2010
ALTHOUGH they twice came from behind to snatch a draw, Rhyl will see Saturday's result at the Recreation Ground as very much two points lost in their bid to qualify for Europe.
The determined Bluebirds took the lead after nine minutes when slick passing between Phil Jones and Graham Jones led to Mark Griffiths' 15-yard shot going in off the post.
Rhyl's nearest effort in the first half saw Phil Doran lash just over the bar from 20 yards after Chris Williams' corner was cleared to the left-back, but it was poor fare from the reigning champions.
Lilywhites keeper Jack Cudworth kept out an Andy Davies shot, but on the hour the scores were level when Matthew Williams' shot from the left-side of the box flew in over custodian David Jones, bringing the former Wales under-21 striker his 20th goal of the season.
Caersws were far from discouraged, though, and on 69 minutes Cudworth made a total mess of dealing with a weak Graham Jones strike, allowing Corey Jenkins to nip in and make it 2-1.
Five minutes later the Lilies were level again when Doran's cross to the back post was headed across the area by Mark Connolly and Gareth Owen scored with a bicycle kick from 12 yards.
And the champions should have won it when a great run from Andrew Pearson saw him break into the box and square for Connolly who looked a good bet to score, but his somewhat weak shot was well saved by Jones.
RHYL: Cudworth, Pearson, Doran, Strong (Ojapah 82), Dowling, Leah, C Williams, Owen, Connolly, M Williams, Kirk (Owens 90). Subs: Naylor, Heenan.

CAERSWS v RHYL
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE
MARCH 27, 2010
VICTORY for Rhyl on Saturday will edge them to within two points of third-placed Aberystwyth with a game in hand and a vastly superior goal difference.
But in view of the recent shock results in the Welsh Premier, Lilywhites player-manager Greg Strong insists there will be no complacency in the champions' camp when they take on next bottom Caersws.
"I always tell the players they've got to prepare as though they are preparing to play the very best for every game," said Strong.
"Caersws won't be treated any differently to anyone else - we'll show them the utmost respect."
Strong recalled Rhyl having it anything but easy last November when his team had to battle hard to beat the Bluebirds 3-1 at Belle Vue.
"They gave us a tough game at our place; they were well organised and did well. I'm expecting it to be the same on Saturday."
Rhyl striker Rob Turner is still struggling to overcome a groin strain and may well miss out again, while utility man Russell Courtney is absent due to an ankle injury.
Winger Tyrone Kirk has a good chance of being involved despite an ankle problem spoiling his chances of a trial at Scottish Premier League club St Johnstone last week.
Strong said Kirk may still get an opportunity to go through his paces for the Saints, but insisted Rhyl's needs must come first.
"It's a case of wait and see," added the boss. "It would have been convenient for him to go there last week because of the way games fell for us, but now we'll need to find a window for when it doesn't clash with our schedule. We're still hopeful it can be rearranged, though. We'd never want to stand in a player's way."
RHYL v CAERSWS - WELSH PREMIER HEAD-TO-HEAD
PLAYED: 31
RHYL WON: 16
CAERSWS WON: 8
DRAWS: 7
THE battle to win the 2009/10 Welsh Premier League title looks to be a straight two-horse race between the leading pair The New Saints and Llanelli - unless we get a few more of those shock results of the past week!
But the sprint for third spot to qualify for the Europa League is less clear-cut.
Depending on who wins the Welsh Cup, fourth place could still guarantee entry into Europe, but third position will be the chief target for a handful of ambitious clubs.
Let's run the rule over the four main candidates.
ABERYSTWYTH TOWN: Played 29 Points 56. Current position - 3rd.
Since Alan Morgan took over the helm last November there has been a total turnaround in fortunes for Aberystwyth.
Players such as Geoff Kellaway, Luke Bowen and Ryan Fraughan have really come to the fore and made the Park Avenue outfit favourites for third place.
Town have two very winnable away games coming up and if they can pick up six points they will really be in the driving seat. Anything less than a maximum haul and it could be tricky with their last three games coming against Llanelli, Rhyl and TNS.
Remaining fixtures: Mar 30: Technogroup Welshpool (a); Apr 3: Elements Cefn Druids (a); Apr 9: Llanelli (h); Apr 17: Rhyl (a); Apr 24: The New Saints (h).
PREDICTED POINTS TOTAL: 65. PREDICTED POSITION: 4th
RHYL: Played 27 Points 51. Current position - 4th.
Greg Strong's new-look side have generally impressed of late and if Mark Connolly and Matthew Williams keep banging in the goals they will be knocking firmly on the Euro door come the end of April.
The Lilywhites have a tough run-in, though, with tough trips to Super 12 aspirants Haverfordwest and Carmarthen as well as meetings with top three Llanelli, TNS and Aberystwyth.
Remaining fixtures: Mar 27: Caersws (a); Apr 2: The New Saints (h); Apr 10: Haverfordwest County (a); Apr 13: Carmarthen Town (a); Apr 17: Aberystwyth Town (h); Apr 22: Llanelli (a); Apr 24: Technogroup Welshpool (a).
PREDICTED POINTS TOTAL: 67. PREDICTED POSITION: 3rd
PORT TALBOT: Played 27 Points 48. Current position - 5th.
Mark Jones' men are enjoying a great season but unlike Aber and Rhyl have the Welsh Cup as a distraction.
The Steelmen have faltered in the last couple of games and still have hard games at Prestatyn, Bangor and Neath to come, but they are capable of picking up enough points to push for the top three.
Several Port players have really excelled this term, not least goalkeeper Lee Kendall, top scorer Martin Rose and ace in the pack Liam McCreesh and I think they have a decent chance of getting into Europe for the first time via one route or another.
Remaining fixtures: Mar 27: Gap Connah's Quay (h); Mar 30: Prestatyn Town (a); Apr 3: Bangor City (a); Apr 7: Neath (a); Apr 17: Porthmadog (a); Apr 24: Bala Town (h); TBA: Newtown (h).
PREDICTED POINTS TOTAL: 62 PREDICTED POSITION: 6th
BANGOR CITY: Played 27 Points 46. Current position - 6th.
Coming up on the rails are Neville Powell's side who look a good bet to qualify for Europe anyway through the Welsh Cup they have won for the past two seasons.
City have the best strike force in the league in Jamie Reed, Ashley Stott, Lee Hunt and Les Davies and if they can avoid injuries will pick up a lot of points between now and the end of the campaign.
Their closing matches are certainly not as demanding as some of the other contenders for third place.
Remaining fixtures: Mar 27: Neath (a); Apr 3: Port Talbot (h); Apr 5: Porthmadog (a); Apr 13: Airbus UK Broughton (h); Apr 17: Caersws (h); Apr 20: Gap Connah's Quay (a); Apr 24: Newtown (h).
PREDICTED POINTS TOTAL: 63 PREDICTED POSITION: 5th
PREDICTED FINAL POSITIONS - 3rd to 6th
Rhyl 34-67
Aberystwyth Town 34-65
Bangor City 34-63
Port Talbot 34-62
