RHYL 1 (M Williams 28)
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE - APRIL 13, 2010
MATTHEW Williams scored for the fifth successive game to keep Rhyl on course for Europe at Richmond Park tonight.
The in-form striker netted the only goal on 28 minutes, finishing clinically from the edge of the box following a neat through ball from Andrew Pearson.
Rhyl had other close calls, Mark Connolly having a point blank header saved by Neil Thomas while Tyrone Kirk hit the post after a typical mazy run.
Carmarthen battled hard, especially in the second half and it needed some good saves from Jack Cudworth to keep them out.
Player-manager Greg Strong was outstanding at the back for the Lilies with John Leah also shining in midfield.
Elsewhere, Port Talbot went third after edging past Newtown 2-1, Bangor City are on Rhyl's coat-tails after comfortably seeing off Airbus UK Broughton 3-0, Llanelli won 1-0 at Bala Town and The New Saints moved close to the title with a 1-0 victory at Technogroup Welshpool.
Other results: Prestatyn Town 0 Neath 0, Elements Cefn Druids 0 Gap Connah's Quay 1, Caersws 1 Porthmadog 2.

HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY 2 RHYL 4
RHYL re-established themselves as the top goalscorers in the Welsh Premier with a dynamic second half performance at the New Bridge Meadow today.
It looked grim at half time with Haver holding a two-goal lead, but the Lilywhites turned things around after the break to give their bid to qualify for Europe fresh hope.
County took a sixth minute lead when Lee Hudgell linked well with Jack Christopher down the left and raced into the box before slipping the ball neatly past the keeper.
Matthew Williams should have equalised when Chris Williams' pass put him clear in the box, but Lee Idzi produced a good low save to deny the striker.
And in the 23rd minute Christopher was left unmarked to head home a Tom Ramasut corner and make it 2-0 to the Bluebirds.
Rhyl were a different proposition in the second stanza and on 57 minutes Mark Connolly played a nice one-two with Matthew Williams before drilling low past Idzi from the edge of the box.
A minute later Matthew Williams' deep cross from the left picked out substitute Tyrone Kirk who sold a lovely dummy before applying a deft left-foot finish.
John Leah's through ball looked to have put Connolly in for the third, but his chip over Idzi drifted wide.
Rhyl were now all over the opposition and only the heroics of Idzi kept out Chris Williams' diving header from Kirk's cross via the right.
In the 69th minute Andrew Pearson strode forward from midfield and slick inter-play with Chris Williams gave Connolly time to pick his spot and make it 3-2 with his 29th goal of the season.
Five minutes from time the comeback was complete when Matthew Williams reached Martyn Naylor's long ball first and headed over Idzi for his 22nd of the campaign.
Earlier this season Connolly set a modern-day club record by scoring in eight successive games.
Today Matthew Williams netted for the fourth match in a row. Just a thought......

WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE - APRIL 10, 2010
TRAILING 2-0 at half time, Rhyl produced a stunning second half comeback to keep their hopes of European qualification still very much alive.
Goals from Lee Hudgell and Jack Christopher put Haverfordwest in seeming control at half time, but two strikes in a minute from Mark Connolly and Tyrone Kirk levelled it before the hour.
Connolly's 29th goal of the season made it 3-0 on 69 minutes and Matthew Williams' 22nd of the campaign sealed the points five minutes from time.

WELSH Premier League champions Rhyl are confident they can gain the all-important FAW domestic licence on appeal following their surprise omission from the list of successful clubs announced today.
Licences have been awarded to Aberystwyth Town, Carmarthen Town, Haverfordwest County, Llanelli, Neath, Newtown, Prestatyn Town and The New Saints.
With the exception of Prestatyn, the successful clubs were also awarded a Uefa licence, along with Bangor City and Porthmadog, enabling them to take part in European competitions.
The remaining clubs face an anxious wait to see whether they are successful in the appeal process with the final decision due on Monday, May 17.
Rhyl secretary Kevin Davies revealed the club's first application failed as it was unable to submit its accounts before the stipulated deadline.
"We always anticipated a slight problem due to us having to bring the date of our financial year into line with the FAW, but on appeal we are confident everything will be in place and we will meet all the criteria needed for the domestic licence," he said.

HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY v RHYL
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE
SATURDAY, APRIL 10 - 2.30pm
RHYL will be out for revenge tomorrow when they visit a Haverfordwest County side which was extremely fortunate to win 2-1 at Belle Vue last November.
The Lilywhites have five league games left and basically need to win them all to maximise their chances of a Europa League place.
The excellent form of Port Talbot and Bangor City of late has certainly not helped the champions' cause.
Following tomorrow's long trip to west Wales comes another one next Tuesday with a journey to Carmarthen Town on the cards. Six points is a very tough ask but certainly gettable against two teams struggling to make the Super 12.
Rhyl will be without the suspended Phil Doran, banned for two matches after his red card against The New Saints on Good Friday, while striker Rob Turner is still out with a groin strain, although player-manager Greg Strong did have some encouraging news on that front.
"Rob's responding well to treatment and we're hopeful he'll be back next week," said Strong.
Left-sided operator Andy Owens will need a fitness test on a leg injury, but utility man Russell Courtney remains on the sidelines.
The player-boss expects a hard encounter at the New Bridge Meadow tomorrow.
"No-one has had an easy ride there this season," he stressed.
"We certainly didn't deserve to lose to them at home, we were the better team throughout apart from the 10-minute spell where they scored their two goals, but we know it's going to be tough there.
"If we play anything like as well as we can, though, we should be okay."
