WHY COULDN'T THEY HAVE WAITED?

By Dave Jones on Dec 11, 09 03:43 PM

WELSH Premier clubs voted to play 44 league games next season at a meeting in Newtown last night.
Nine of the 16 clubs present agreed to support the Welsh Premier board's plan for each club to play the others twice each home and away, a recommendation that will now be put to the FAW's domestic committee.
Some of the clubs in attendance last night have very little chance of being in the Super 12 next season, which in my opinion made the vote a farce.
Why could they have not have waited until the end of the season, so that the clubs who WILL be in the elite 12 could have decided once and for all on the fixtures issue.
The league would still have had the best part of three months to draw up fixture lists etc.
The other option put before the meeting was for a 32-game season where each club would play each other twice before the league split into two groups of six - top six and bottom six.
Rhyl FC managing director Dave Milner, who attended the meeting with secretary Kev Davies, said: "We feel that this (44 games) is the best option of the two although we would point out that we still feel the 10-club League should have been starting next season.
"The meeting was very lively but also positive and we can now look forward and plan accordingly."

""No-one wants to impose anything on the clubs - it's their league after all"
quote from Deakin. He didn't mention the fact that the league was formed by imposing a rule that Rhyl and other clubs could no longer play in the English pyramid.

Shame no one has deemed it appropriate to ask the fans their opinion i.e. a supporter who attends every home league game at present pays approx £136 so under the new league structure they could end up paying £272?

Not a huge fan of a 44-game season, but can't see how a 30% increase in home matches leads to a 100% increase in admission money?

I was disapointed with our attitude on Saturday. Poor Shaun Dowling, 30 secs in and he makes a bad error but nobody on the whole team went over to him to encourage him.Seems this season we are catching the Llanelli habit of shouting & moaning at each other. Good team spirit , i dont think so.
