HOLDEN MAKES CHARLTON DEBUT

By Dave Jones on Nov 11, 09 09:57 PM

Luke Holden
LUKE Holden made quite an impression on his long-awaited debut for Charlton Athletic in this evening's Johnstone's Paint Trophy southern area quarter-final 2-1 defeat at Southampton.
Holden, who started the campaign at Welsh Premier champions Rhyl but is on loan at The Valley until the end of December, came on as a 55th minute substitute for Lloyd Sam and did his chances of earning a full-time contract no harm at all.
Looking lively on the right, Holden had a great chance to get the Addicks back into the tie in the 82nd minute, but blasted over the bar from a good position.
In injury time, however, Holden whipped in one of those brilliant trademark crosses which Rhyl have missed since he left to set up Leon McKenzie to give Charlton a lifeline.
It was too little, too late, though and Southampton advanced to the semi-finals.

I wouldn't say Rhyl have missed Holden's trademark crosses as Kirk and Williams provide more quality crosses per game than we've had for a long time. Glad to see Luke making his debut however and hope it gets Rhyl some cash as part of a signing on fee! :-)

Rubbish.

Holden's crossing and shooting is way ahead of those 2. Both very good players, but particularly Williams, the final ball or shot lacks quality.

That's why Holden's where he is right now

Thanks Craig for endorsing my earlier comments regarding the poor quality of messrs Williams and Kirks crosses. Sorry Mr Woodward but there can be no comparison although we were blessed in having Holden as it is rare that players possess this ability to 'whip' in crosses with pace that sometimes tempt the keeper to come can and decieve defenders in making mistakes owing to the pace and quality of the delivery. I certainly am not questioning the abilty, trickery of these players but one good cross maybe out of ten per match will not hurt teams!

Hello Edward Woodward, Rhyl could have done with you on Tuesday night when they needed The Equalizer
