PARRY BACKS RHYL TO RETAIN TITLE
![]()
ALTHOUGH the purse strings have been tightened this season Rhyl president Peter Parry still expects the club to retain the Welsh Premier League title.
Events at Belle Vue this summer have attracted much attention with 11 members of last season's championship-winning squad departed and just four new players brought in.
But speaking on Sgorio Cymru before Saturday's opening day victory over Carmarthen, the club's main benefactor Mr Parry insists the Lilywhites are not in decline.
"We have reduced the squad, but in numbers not in quality," he said. "Last year we had a big squad, a set of players with which we expected to win the title. We've trimmed the budget this season, but I still expect us to retain the title."
Parry also commented on the recent departure of head coach Allan Bickerstaff just three months after leading the Lilies to the league crown.
"Bickerstaff is an excellent coach, but he was not brought in as a manager. He was brought in as an assistant and Osian (Roberts) was brought in as the manager."
Parry went on to explain that Roberts' prestigious role as FAW Trust technical director prohibited him from managing a Welsh Premier club.
"We didn't have a manager per ce last season and we felt it was time to bring one in. We saw in Greg Strong many of the qualities we were looking for and we believe we've got the right man."
The president also repeated recent assurances that the club is not going into administration and that he has no intention of leaving Belle Vue.
"It is a time of change, but as to the administration rumours I've no idea what that was all about; to be honest I think it was someone trying to cause mischief.
"I'm not leaving Rhyl FC. I've said I'll review the situation every five years, every 10 years; I can't be here for ever, but I'm more than happy to be here for the forseeable future."

A little optomistic, unless there's an influx of players to strengthen both the starting x1 and the squad, but nice to see Peter going on TV to put the record straight
Sounded convincing, but if the rumour of how small the budget is has any truth in it then I'm afraid we are dealing in miracles this season unless Mr Parry's pockets are deep? Any news as to were Sherbon was Craig?
he's gone. reports said he'd signed for aber, but according to sherbs himself on facebook, he hasn't signed for anyone yet
So if Greg was brought in as the manager, where does that leave Osian Roberts? After all, Peter Parry did say that "He (Bickerstaff) was brought in as an assistant and Osian (Roberts) was brought in as the manager." Is Osian still with the club and, if so, what capacity does he hold?
Osian was brought in as the main man a year ago, with AB as coach. Whether that was ever meant to be a permanent appointment or just for Osian's eurocredentials, no idea.It was discovered that Osian's responsibility with the FAW prohibited him from managing an individual club on a permanent basis. I don't think he was spotted again from Sept onwards, and AB did nicely as coach with no apparent need for a manager. Osian "helped out" PP for the Partisan games. Now Greg Strong has been appointed as manager and, as far as I know, we are still awaiting an official announcement (if the club still do official announcements !) on his management team i.e. coaches or assistants.
Now I really am confused -
1) A manager who has had more clubs than Tiger Woods, a multitude of contacts in the game (his words)and three weeks into his tenure ... no addition to an already wafer thin squad?
2) His selection on Saturday saw Holden on the bench for the whole 90 minutes and an ineffective Connolly given the luxury of playing the whole 90 minutes?
3) Why has Sherbon left (or allowed to leave) this was a player hailed last season as 'one for the future' the right age and the bonus of apparently being a goal scorer?
Lots of questions lads, anyone with any answers?
1) Be patient, he's working hard to bring in the right players, we don't want any old toffel.
2) Holden is attracting interest from Coventry City and Rhyl should get a decent fee for him so they didn't want to risk him getting injured.
3) Sherbon is a bag of trouble, another John Lawless, so probably well shot of him, also with Kendall gone he'd lost his transport saviour.
Don't worry there's money in the pot, if the club was on its backside then Parry wouldn't be coming out predicting another title win. While Peter's here we're all right.
Encouraging comments Eamon slightly appeased but surely would'nt Strong want reinforcements in before he allows any more to leave? Okay a fee for Holden would be nice but I am really concerned about the quality players released and in my opinion (only my opinion) sub standard players recruited, and I guess judging by Saturdays dreadful attendance there may be a few hundred other fans that may be fearing the worse?
