LILYWHITES GROUND THE WINGMAKERS

By Dave Jones on Aug 25, 09 10:16 PM

AIRBUS UK BROUGHTON 1 (McManus 67)
RHYL 2 (Hunt 34, Owen 80)
LOOSEMORES LEAGUE CUP GROUP 4

RHYL are the early leaders of Group 4 following tonight's well-deserved victory at The Airfield.
Lee Hunt, who netted twice on this same ground four days previously in a 2-2 Welsh Premier draw, headed Rhyl in front on 34 minutes from a John Leah free-kick.
Airbus, who fielded a much changed line-up from the one which featured in the league game, equalised midway through the second period when Paul McManus scored with a cracking 30-yarder.
But the visitors booked the points when Matthew Williams' shot was parried by keeper Phil Palethorpe only for Gareth Owen to be on hand to put away the winner 10 minutes from time.

One bright spot to come out of the match was the performance of Shaun Dowling. Good turn of speed and showed some good skills.
Pritchard's distribution again left a lot to be desired and Garteh Owen, despite his goal, again looked off the pace whilst John Leah was still not the big influence that we know he can be.
We had a lot of chances but were much too profligate in front of goal - we will not be given that latitude on Saturday against Port Talbot.

It's been said that Shaun can play anywhere accorss the defence. What's his best position for us then ? Maybe he's the good news for which we've been waiting ! Would be good for the first (only) eleven to know that there are others to take their places.
