Lot depends on whether Danny Williams commits? If not then another midfielder who can play wide right and another frontman. Think the backline is well covered although am very suprised Pritchard is still here, rate him as a very sub-standard keeper, must come cheap and be prepared to 'boot' the ball at Kendall during warm-ups each Saturday with the promise of a couple of appearances in cup matches? Guaranteed if Kendall gets hurt/suspended (which is possible) then AB will ship in a loan keeper faster than you can blink!

I think we can get by with 3 strikers. Carl Owen only played 4 league games last season. Anyone else would be a burden on the wage bill and unlikely to get a look in.

I think we need another centre half as we haven't got a lot of cover there, though finding one anywhere near as good as Paul O'Neil will be very difficult.

Right side of midfield looks a little thin so a real quality signing wouldn't go amiss there and a genuine left back too

Why on earth did we get rid of Paul O'Neill and Chris Roberts? I can never recall either player having a bad game for Rhyl. They were not getting paid the earth and to be honest I think the club (not the coach) has treated them badly. I doubt we will bring anyone in better.
I'm not overly inspired by any of our new signings, but I suppose after last season's excitement anything was going to be a disappointment.
Bickerstaff will do well to win the title again with this squad, he needs two or three more decent signings but will be be allowed to get them?
Might be we'll get stuck with what we've got and make up the rest with reserves.
Totally agree about Pritchard JDH. He might have good pedigree as a keeper but last season when he turned out for Rhyl he was a bag of nerves and made terrible mistakes. Behind a less capable defence he'd have cost us a shedful of goals.

I can only assume that, although the squad will be smaller this year, there are still players being targeted by the management team. Let's not forget that there was mention of a player with Football League experience joining - and there are lots of them looking for clubs, who might not be thinking of the L-o-W at the moment, but who might be as the start of the season looms, and they're not fixed up?

I think in O Neil's case the money he was being offered wasn't going to compensate him for the fact that he knew he was very likely to be behind Horan and Strong again this season and he chose to leave.

Chris Roberts in my opinion, though he did little wrong last season isn't technically at the level of the likes of Stones or Naylor and again wasn't likely to be a starter.

But we definitely do need more strength in the squad.

As for not being overly inspired by our new signings, if you'd told me 2 seasons ago Leah and Naylor were joining(and in June of last year too) I would have been overjoyed. Last seasons captures definitely have spoiled us a little

It's basic maths. 12 outfield players competing for 10 starting places leaves little cover for injuries and suspensions and practically no options for the bench. Will be much more difficult this year for young reserves to bridge the gap if they are not playing in a proper competitive league.

So we are short. Reason Carl only started four last year was because we expected Neil Roberts to be out injured for periods. Could happen this season.

I also think we can forget about reserves making the step up, think the question is are quality reserve players going to play at a lower league level? Therefore the squad needs to stand at 16 at least, not sure the quality so far matches last seasons squad, only my opinion though.

As for the quality this year compared to last...

If we look at the starting 11, GK just as good, strikers just as good, midfield there or there about, Naylor probably an improvement in defence...so it's probably only in Craig Jones that we are weaker in having lost such a quality winger (and his replacement in Josh at the same time !)

As you suggest, main problem is in the squad rather than in a fit and non-suspended starting eleven.

I wish you'd all stop panicing. I'm absolutely certain that the management team have no intention of going into the season with 12 recognised 1st team outfield players.

I'm told there were 5 or 6 new faces at training on Tuesday night, who knows 1 or 2 of those maybe decent signings

JDH said:

Hope your right Craig because we will be very lucky if we replicate last seasons relatively injury/suspension free squad. When do you think Danny Williams will make up his mind?

craig said:

when he finds out whether Rhyl's is the best offer on the table I guess.

Personally I'd sign him on a non contract basis for the European games which gives him the option of moving on later

ioio said:

Good record in getting things sorted "for the season"..getting ready (in players and practice matches) for europe is the more immediate concern.

craig said:

The odds are we'll be playing a side mot in season this time, so they'll be in exactly the same boat.

Some of them only finished their season late last month so they'll probably take us lightly and only start train in July. Our lads have been at it since the start of June
