STONES ON TARGET TWICE IN RESERVES WIN

A RHYL side featuring first team squad players Greg Stones, Mark Connolly and Josh Johnson comfortably beat Pwllheli at Belle Vue last night.
The Lilywhites took the lead when Pwll goalkeeper Maldwyn Hughes punched a flag-kick out to Stones on the edge of the box and he blasted into the bottom left hand corner.
Jack Higgins could have made it 2-0 when Stones headed a corner back across the box but Higgins was unable to make contact with the ball.
Ben Bucknall fired just wide before Hughes saved at the feet of Tom Patel and then made a fine stop from a Higgins header.
The Pwllheli keeper did well again to keep out a Connolly free-kick, Patel had an effort cleared off the line and Higgins went close again before the break.
Half-time: 1-0.
Rhyl doubled their lead six minutes into the second half when Stones nodded Connolly's free-kick back across the area and an unmarked Sam Brewerton scored with a free header.
Hughes denied Johnson with his feet, but Rhyl suffered a blow when Higgins was sent off for a deliberate handball - his second yellow card offence.
Undeterred, Rhyl remained on top and Stones added a third with a superb long range thunderbolt into the top corner.
Hughes produced a fine save from Bucknall before at the other end Paul Pritchard denied Gwyn Jones with his feet.
Stones also had a big hand in Rhyl's fourth when his cross was headed into his own net by a Pwllheli defender.
The visitors at least got something from their trip when Neil Jones collected a late consolation goal.
