RAMPANT RHYL COAST TO VICTORY

By Dave Jones on Mar 21, 09 11:58 PM

CAERSWS 0
RHYL 3 (M Williams 8 & 43; C Jones 15)
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE

RAMPANT Rhyl claimed a record-breaking 24th win this season at the expense of an inept Caersws who have now failed to score in over 10 hours of football.
The Lilywhites took an eighth-minute lead when Gareth Owen lobbed a ball into the box, Neil Roberts nodded on, and the Caersws defence stood still as Matthew Williams pounced to round keeper Andy Hughes and stroke into an empty net.
On 15 minutes the visitors scored a goal of true class when Craig Jones advanced down the left and exchanged pinpoint passes with Owen before beating Hughes with a slick finish from inside the box.
Hughes thwarted a Paul O'Neill effort from a corner before in the 43rd minute the keeper was left scrambling as a Matthew Williams header trickled across him.
The Caersws custodian did manage to scoop the ball out but it was adjudged it had crossed the line before Craig Jones made sure by heading into the net.
Rhyl continued to boss proceedings after the break and when Matthew Williams won the ball in the area it reached the outstanding Owen whose fierce drive was kept out at his near post by Hughes.
O'Neill's cross-cum-shot from the right side of the area could only be helped on its way into the goal by Hughes, but somehow substitute Jamie Reed failed to find the empty net.
Rhyl have now set a club record for most wins in a Welsh Premier season (24) and most goals (81) and remain unbeaten on their travels with 12 victories from 13 starts.

Rhyl: M Jones, O'Neill, C Roberts, Horan, Strong, D Williams (Stones 76), Owen, M Williams, N Roberts (Reed 46), Sherbon (Connolly 65), C Jones. Att: 269.

Did the Reed/Matty Wms partnership work up-front second half ? One would have thought that Carl Owen would have been the logical replacement for Neil Roberts. Pity we can't have 5 "open" subs on the bench.

They did ok. We seemed to be trying to walk it into the net in the 2nd half. They both play better with Robbo.

We totally dominated the entire 90 mins and played some good football on yet another woeful pitch. Have they never heard of water in this league? 1 of their watchers in reply to my moaning about the pitch said, 'Its a good job it is or it would be 10' which wasn't far wrong.

Easiest 3 points of the season
