By Dave Jones on Jan 1, 09 12:54 AM

RHYL FC finish 2008 on top of the Welsh Premier League - 2009 promises great things.
It has been a pleasure to report on all the Lilywhites' achievements over the past 12 months.
However, the thing which has pleased me most has been the fantastic responses from you - the readers.
Since Lilywhites Online began in March 2007 your contributions have done more than anything to make the blog a great success.
All comments, whether you agree with my views or not, have been honest and constructive and a pleasure to read.

A happy New Year to everyone involved with this forum, and especially to Dave, who runs the show and has always given us comprehensive and up to date information as well as his informed and honest opinion on many matters relating to Rhyl FC.

There have been many lamentable cut backs in the newspaper industry recently, sometimes resulting in little or no coverage of our club in the local Rhyl papers. So this Lilywhites blog is now an even more vital vehicle for communication of news, as well as being an open and honest forum for opinions and discussion.

We should wish it all the best for 2009 and beyond. Blwyddyn Newydd Dda i bawb.

Happy New Year to all Rhyl FC fans, players, officials. A special thank you to Dave for his extensive coverage of Rhyl FC throughout 2008. His lilywhites blog has become an invaluable source of information and news for all things Rhyl FC. I predict a successful 2009 for the lilywhites and a prosperous New Year for all. C’mon you Whites!!!!

And a happy New Year to you, Dave. Also a big thank you for your hard work and dedication in setting up and keeping this blog going. It's informative, up to the minute and a must read for anything to do with Rhyl F. C.. Also a big thanks to my fellow contributors who always post honest and constructive comments. I just wish all the clubs had a blog as good as this.
Let's hope 2009 carries on in the same vein as 2008 ended culminating with a Championship and a good run in the Champions League.

Happy New Year to one and all. Keep up the good work Dave!

I typed a deep and meaningful reply, only for it to fail because the Catchpa system didn't recognise my response - not surprising since I couldn't read the bl**dy symbols it asked me to repeat!

So, instead of my original pithy response, I shall limit myself to a "thankyou" to Dave for a brill site, and a "happy New Year" to everyone.

I know the feeling, 2 or 3 times I've written a big piece on a game only to watch it disappear into cyberspace, Dave surely there's a better way of logging on than that?

JDH said:

Hey guys not a big deal try copy and paste before you launch it into 'cyberspace' works for me!

Dave Jones said:

Sometimes I don't use my admin console and just type replies or messages straight on to the site as you all do. At times, like has been described, I've typed a longish message and lost it as for some reason or another the site would not accept it. So, just like JDH says, whenever I type a message now I always copy and paste it so if it is rejected I've still got the text saved to have another try. As for a more technical reason as to why some messages get rejected I'll have to get back to you on that one.

Although this kind of security (repeating characters shown on the screen in order to avoid those Spam programmes that reply automatically) is common, for some reason the Captcha characters are often difficult to make out, and thus repeat (although it could just be my eyesight that going with old age ....)

Dave Jones said:

No EE, you are absolutely right, the characters are hard to make out at times and can lead to messages being rejected.

DGW, your comments are welcome and your kind words much appreciated, however I must respond to one thing you stated.
Where you say: "There have been many lamentable cut backs in the newspaper industry recently, sometimes resulting in little or no coverage of our club in the local Rhyl papers."
I would disagree with that. Yes, since the demise of the Rhyl and Prestatyn Visitor and the birth of its successor the Denbighshire Visitor the sports pages have beyond my control been cut from five to two, but despite this Rhyl FC have featured on the back page every week with a decent length report without fail apart from Christmas week when the DV was not published or occasions where there has not been a game. Yes, the amount of column inches dedicated to Rhyl and everyone else has inevitably gone down, but never has there been no coverage of the Lilywhites in the paper I'm involved with when the team has had a match. Yes, my responsibilities have changed in recent months but I still remain committed to giving Rhyl FC the best coverage I possibly can with the resources I have. For as long as I am in the position I am I will continue to do so.

dgw said:

Not intended as a criticism of you Dave, and you are right in that there has been coverage of Rhyl in most issues. However I think I am also right in saying that coverage since cutbacks (through no fault of your own) has been a lot less comprehensive than it used to be; to the extent that there has been no League tables published either, unless I have been unable to find them.

Anyway, my main point is that the Lilywhites forum is now more relevant and useful than ever, so keep up the good work.

Dave Jones said:

No offence whatsoever taken DGW and I agree with your points.
