DERBY ATTENDANCE IS THIRD HIGHEST EVER
TODAY'S crowd of 2,126 at Belle Vue for the Rhyl v Prestatyn derby is believed to be the third highest attendance in Welsh Premier history.
The top turnout of all-time remains the 2,746 which was at the Barry Town v Caernarfon Town match on December 20, 1997.
Second highest was the 2,741 which packed into Belle Vue for the Rhyl v TNS title decider on April 11, 2004 when Andy Moran's late goal sealed a 1-0 Lilywhites victory.
Nothing had come anywhere near that figure until this afternoon's Denbighshire derby pulled in 2,126 - more than double the previous highest crowd of 2008/09.
Rhyl now top the average attendance table for 2008/09 with 712. Bangor City are second on 583 and Prestatyn Town an impressive third with 361.
Town are virtually certain to set their highest attendance when Rhyl visit Bastion Road on New Year's Day.

Has everyone else stopped commenting? These are great times for Rhyl FC. What a crowd! Over twice what Caernarfon v Bangor pulled in and what a great turnout from Prestatyn whose supporters were magnificent.
I reckon everyone else was stunned by the attendance. Older fans like me would tend to deride the idea of a derby against Prestatyn as traditionally their team was in the same or lower league than our reserves and it seemed such a come-down. We never thought more than a few hundred would turn-up. As said, great credit to Prestatyn and humbling for many of us !
We were certainly surprised in the canteen !
I was hoping for around the 1000 mark, but all credit to the Prestatyn crowd for making such a brilliant atmosphere, how we we all fit into bastion road ?
What an impressing crowd that was in Belle Vue! We thought to attend a Welsh Premier League match with an attendance of about 1000 people, but what we saw then was great. We had a great time in Rhyl and are sure to return some day after this entertaining game. Two questions remaining:
1. We used to the situation that every team has a 2nd goalkeeper on the bench (in Germany, even our team playing in 10th division has one): Why didn't Prestatyn have a sub-keeper?
2. I badly want a Rhyl FC scarf. How can I get one? Is there any online merchandising? I wanted to buy one after the match but the club store was already closed.
Thanks to all who made our stay enjoyable and to those answering my questions!
Andy from Munich, Germany
As another visitor from abroad (Switzerland) I was surprised positively by this fantastic attendance. The derby was also very entertaining (no doubt if you see nine goals!) – on and off the pitch. I really enjoyed my short stay in Rhyl and wish you good luck to secure another Welsh league title. Your team (as well as the supporters) seems to be good enough... ;-)
Hi Andy, Welsh Premier League clubs very rarely name a goalkeeper among their substitutes as they are only allowed three subs for a league match, although they can have five if they name two youth players (is this correct?).
As for the Rhyl scarf, can anyone help Andy get one of these? Of course we have a club shop but I'm not sure if it does mail order or an online service. If anyone can help our friend from Germany please post a message here.
Thank you very much, Dave!
The League should perhaps reconsider this subs-regulation which doesn't make sense. But on the other hand, they could have sat their youth keeper on the bench. Whatever...
Perhaps I try to contact the club to get a scarf, but if someone wants to get rid of one, just contact me ;-)
According to Haller from Switzerland I want to send you the best wishes for the upcoming matches and the race for the title!
See you!
Andy
