1 NOTTS COUNTY 1 RHYL 3
FA CUP THIRD ROUND 1956/57
REGARDED as the greatest performance ever by a Welsh non-league side in the FA Cup.
Over 16,000 were at Meadow Lane to see Third Division Notts County humbled by the Cheshire County League Lilywhites.
Rhyl, who took more than 2,000 fans to Nottingham, were soon in control with their fast and fluent football but County keeper Linton initially kept them at bay.
After 20 minutes the Lilies took the lead through Harry Williams but the Magpies levelled before half time.
On the hour Rhyl made it 2-1 when Graham Meakin was upended in the box and Billy Hughes scored from the spot.
Meakin headed in Rhyl's third in the closing stages to seal a memorable victory.
2 RHYL 4 MERTHYR TYDFIL 3
WELSH CUP FINAL - APRIL 24, 1952
AFTER three previous appearances in the final ended in failure Rhyl lifted the Welsh Cup for the first time in their history in front of 10,000 at Cardiff's Ninian Park.
The Lilywhites were big underdogs and the writing looked on the wall when Merthyr went 2-0 up inside 15 minutes through a Reynolds double.
But the pride of the North staged a great recovery, the great Don Spendlove and strike partner Stafford netting two goals each to put Rhyl into a 4-2 lead.
A late reply from Jarman was not sufficient to stop skipper Tom McKillop proudly lifting the cup.
Footage of this final can be viewed on You Tube.
Rhyl proved it was no fluke by winning the prestigious cup again 12 months later.
3 RHYL 2 BARNSLEY 0
FA CUP SECOND ROUND SECOND REPLAY - DECEMBER 21, 1970
THE Lilywhites were back page news in national tabloids after goals by Eurwyn Davies and Laurie Davies saw off Third Division Barnsley in an FA Cup second round, second replay at Old Trafford.
The previous meetings between the sides ended in 0-0 and 1-1 draws before Rhyl proudly progressed 2-0 in the third encounter.
Views on this game differ depending on who you speak to. Some argue the Lilywhites executed many bigger giant-killings in their illustrious FA Cup history. It has been claimed in the third game Barnsley were below par, Rhyl did not play that well and the tie attracted more hype because of where it was played.
Others have said it was one of the greatest performances and results in the Lilywhites' history and a Barnsley team including future Newcastle midfielder Pat Howard was very strong.
Sadly, the Lilies were hammered 6-1 in the third round by Swansea City who went on to meet eventual finalists Liverpool.
4 RHYL 2 SWANSEA CITY 0
FAW PREMIER CUP SEMI-FINAL - APRIL 7, 2004
THE biggest crowd seen at Belle Vue in 10 years - 2,379 - were treated to a fantastic performance by Rhyl against their esteemed Football League One opponents (remarkably four days later BV witnessed an even larger attendance when a WPL record 2,741 saw Rhyl beat TNS 1-0).
John Hulse's side had reached the Premier Cup semis the season before but were hammered 4-0 at Wrexham.
This last four tussle, shown live on S4C, was expected to go the same way, especially as the Swans fielded a full strength side which included former Rhyl striker Lee Trundle.
What did occur was nothing short of amazing. An Alan Tait own goal, quickly followed by a second from man of the match Steve Walters, gave the hosts a 2-0 half time lead they never looked like relinquishing.
Rhyl outplayed Kenny Jackett's Swansea from start to finish; the Football League side could have no complaints.
5 FK ATLANTAS 3 RHYL 2
UEFA CUP FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND SECOND LEG - JULY 28, 2005 (aggregate 4-4; Rhyl win on away goals)
THEY may have lost the match in Lithuania, but Rhyl's 2-1 win in the first leg at Belle Vue ensured they were victorious on away goals, thus becoming only the second Welsh Premier club to win a European tie.
Never in the club's proud history can a Rhyl side have shown such character and determination.
An historic night was marred by ugly scenes after the opposition assaulted members of the Rhyl squad at the final whistle.
The Lilywhites overcame an FK Atlantas team who left Rhyl with an army of walking wounded and saw coach Vacys Lekevicius (whose fashion sense was nearly as bad as his self-control) punch Rhyl's Alan Morgan and Lilies' keeper Ged McGuigan hit by Atlantas scorer Aivaras Laurisas after the final whistle.
Atlantas took a 12th-minute lead when Jamie Brewerton brought down Laurisas and the penalty was converted by captain Dainius Zernys, who was sent off three minutes later for a bad foul on Morgan.
Rhyl hit back in the 32nd minute after clever interplay between Andy Moran and Chris Adamson gave Greg Stones the chance to head into the bottom corner.
The visitors took the lead on the hour when Adamson sent an inch-perfect pass into the path of Gary Powell, who sent his right-foot shot from 25 yards into the top corner.
As in the first leg at Belle Vue, the 10-man Lithuanians were still dangerous and it took Atlantas just a minute to respond as Rimantas Ã
Åvingylas hit the post and LauriÃ
¡as slotted in the rebound.
The Lithuanians converted a controversial late penalty, but Rhyl held on for a magnificent victory.
6 RHYL 4 ROSSENDALE UNITED 0
CHESHIRE COUNTY LEAGUE - APRIL 1972
RHYL secured their third Cheshire County League title - and first in 21 years - by beating Rossendale United 4-0 on an April evening in 1972, with Jimmy Cardno hitting three and the fourth coming from Freddie Stewart, signed from Bangor for the title run-in.
The Lilywhites finished with 66 points from 42 games, nine points clear of Rossendale, in the days when two points were awarded for a win.
There was a massive crowd at Belle Vue for this title clincher; one fan recalls at the final whistle not being able to see a blade of grass on the pitch for celebrating fans.
Undoubtedly one of the greatest nights in Rhyl's history and a reminder of the times when many Lilywhites fans were at their happiest - when the club was playing in the English pyramid.
7 PORTHMADOG 0 RHYL 2
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE - MAY 1, 2004
THE Lilywhites enjoyed their finest hour yet in the Welsh Premier when a 2-0 victory on a baking hot sunny day at Y Traeth secured them a first ever league title.
A crowd of 837 saw Gary Powell strike a post before firing Rhyl into an 18th minute lead.
After that there were plenty of nervy moments as the Lilywhites struggled to convert their chances and saw Port go close a few times at the other end, striker Carl Owen, now with Rhyl, hitting the upright.
The issue was finally settled with two minutes remaining. Gareth Wilson's flick header put Andy Moran in the clear and Rhyl's top scorer slotted past Ged McGuigan in front of ecstatic Lilies supporters.
Rhyl were worthy title winners. They had lost just one match all season and came out on top in two epic battles against chief challengers TNS.
8 RHYL 2 BANGOR CITY 2
(Rhyl won 4-3 on pens)
LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP FINAL - MAY 3, 2003
THIS was a fantastic day at Belle Vue as Rhyl won their biggest trophy in Welsh football in 50 years.
An unforgettable triumph marked the start of John Hulse's run of unprecedented success.
The game itself was a classic, full of attacking football. Rhyl roared into a 2-0 half-time lead courtesy of Andy Moran and Chris McGinn, but cup favourites Bangor were in no mood to surrender and replied through Owain Tudur Jones and Ricky Evans in the second-half.
Somehow neither side was able to score again, despite numerous chances at either end through the rest of normal time and extra-time.
It all came down to penalties and Rhyl keeper Paul Smith made a couple of fine saves before McGinn put away the deciding spot-kick.
9 RHYL 5 LLANELLI 1
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE - AUG 30, 2008
AFTER this ruthless demolition of the champions live on S4C one pundit said Rhyl had "raised the bar" for the standard of the Welsh Premier.
Greg Strong volleyed the Lilywhites in front, Stuart Jones equalised in fortunate fashion for Llanelli, but Jamie Reed restored the home lead before the break.
It was in the second half that Allan Bickerstaff's side hit top form. Three cracking goals in a 10-minute spell from Neil Roberts (2) and Josh Johnson had Peter Nicholas' side looking for the exit door. Before this Saturday evening clash Rhyl had gone 10 games without a win over Llanelli.
Few would argue that this was Rhyl's best performance in 14 years in the Welsh Premier. Almost 1,000 fans enjoyed a feast of fabulous football at BV.
10 CWMBRAN TOWN 1 RHYL 2
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE - MAY 6, 1996
ARE some of you surprised to see this game featured? If so, just imagine the implications had Rhyl not won on this tension-filled May afternoon.
The Lilywhites went into the final game of the season facing the real possibility of relegation, but they emerged from their long trip to Cwmbran victorious after goals from Justin Jones and Lee Jones saved their skins.
A squad made up almost entirely of local players made the long journey to South Wales and returned as heroes.
Had Rhyl dropped out of the League of Wales who knows how much of a struggle they would have faced to get back, especially considering what has happened to the likes of Holywell Town, Cemaes Bay, Flint Town United and Mold Alexandra in recent years.
Many thanks indeed to Rhyl FC supporters without whose help this feature would not have been possible.

Rhyl 3-1 Haka.
Got to be up there with the best of them. We all saw how good a side they were in the 2nd leg
I chose 11 Craig and Rhyl v Haka was the one that went; there is certainly more than a good case for including it though.
Firstly, a great feature. I can't think of many other games I'd put in there, apart from perhaps one or two from the FA Cup or FA Trophy. The order of the top 10 is probably about right too. The most exciting game I've seen was the 5-3 win over Aberystwyth at BV in the title winning season, but that wouldn't rank as a best result only a best game. Ironic really as most other times Aber come here it's like watching paint dry.
Probably got most of them there Dave, fair play to you. Maybe some of the older supporters might have one or two others from the Spendlove era but you've probably got two of the best games from that time.
Does anybody else recall us coming back from a three goal deficit to eventually beat TNS in the second leg at Belle Vue, in a League Cup match about 2003?
For sheer guts and determination in battling back from a seemingly impossible situation that result was quite incredible on the night.
Hi Dave, thanks for those comments. The tie you are thinking of was in the 2003/04 League Cup second round between TNS and Rhyl. TNS were 1-0 up from the first leg at Treflan, and when Nicky Ward scored first for the Saints in the return at Belle Vue, it looked like curtains for the Lilywhites. But Rhyl came back heroically to win 3-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate. The scorers were Gary Powell, Mark Powell and Chris McGinn. The Rhyl team was: Smith, Walters (Chalk 90), Graves, Atherton, Edwards, M Powell, McGinn, Limbert, Moran, G Powell, Adamson. The crowd was 425. Funnily enough, in all the tributes I did about Rhyl's best games under Hulse that one didn't get mentioned, but thinking back, and I was there, it certainly deserved to be.
