NARROW CUP WIN FOR RESERVES

WHILE Rhyl were far from at their best in this Barritt Cup round one clash they managed to grab the only goal to secure passage into the last 16 and a home tie against Mochdre Sports.
To their credit Clwyd League Premier Division rank outsiders Sychdyn put up a very good battle and could feel proud of their efforts.
The home side threatened first when top scorer Mike Roose lost his marker from a Jack Roberts corner but missed with a free header from eight yards.
James Hay's neat ball then played in Tom Patel who fired just wide of the post. Patel was unlucky soon after when he met a Roose byeline cross six yards out but was denied by a superb save from Sychdyn keeper Paul George.
When a poor clearance fell straight to Jack Roberts a goal looked on the cards, but after beating a defender the midfield man drove wide.
Finally Rhyl broke the deadlock on 27 minutes when Tom Roberts rose highest to meet Jack Roberts' corner to head in off the bar.
It could have been 2-0 at the break but Sam Heenan volleyed over from close range.
The second half was a really flat affair.
From a free-kick into the visitors' box, Hay pinched the ball from Tom Barnard, worked on to his right foot but shot low past the upright.
Hay went closer when he took on a Jack Roberts pass but saw his 15-yard attempt well saved by George.
Sychdyn were still in it at 1-0 and near the end Adam Walker went close to an equaliser from a corner, but the right team won on the day.
The result meant Rhyl keep up their 100% record at Belle Vue this season in all competitions - played 9 won 9.
