RHYL v HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY
WELSH CUP ROUND THREE
SATURDAY 2pm
THEIR hopes of winning this season's League Cup now gone, Rhyl will be anxious to keep their Welsh Cup aspirations alive when they entertain Haverfordwest at Belle Vue tomorrow.
This will be the fourth time the teams have met in the competition's history, the Lilywhites enjoying a 3-0 record to date.
In 1986/87 Rhyl won 1-0 in a replay after a 2-2 draw, in 1992/93 the Lilies triumphed 2-0 at Bridge Meadow en route to the final and last season they won again at Haverfordwest by a 2-1 scoreline.
Haver have already visited Belle Vue in the league this season and returned home 2-0 losers.
Derek Brazil's team are physical and well-disciplined with a couple of lively strikers up front in the free-scoring Jack Christopher and Nick Woodrow.
Rhyl's 3-1 extra-time loss at Bangor on Tuesday was only their second defeat of the season - both of them coming in the League Cup.

THE scheduled Welsh Premier League match at Belle Vue between Rhyl and Prestatyn Town on Boxing Day has now been moved to Saturday, December 27,with a 2.30pm kick-off.
RHYL FC do not wish to pursue an incident in which a Lilywhites fan was allegedly hit by a masonry object at Tuesday's League Cup tie at Bangor City any further.
James Thorley, 32, was allegedly struck by the missile during the first half of the match which City eventually won 3-1 after extra time.
Club secretary Joe Furnival said Rhyl were satisfied with the security arrangements at Farrar Road.
"There were 18 security men and four police officers on duty who did everything they could to avoid any difficulties," said Mr Furnival.
"Bangor told us beforehand of the security measures in place and their secretary kept me informed of everything that had gone on during the game.
"It is our understanding that the object was thrown from outside the ground and was out of the control of the security staff and police on duty.
"We have informed the person who was hit by the object of the proceedures he can follow if he wishes to pursue the matter and this is now in his hands."
BANGOR CITY 3 (Lloyd 90 & 111, Edwards 104)
RHYL 1 (Strong 35)
LEAGUE CUP QUARTER FINALS - OCTOBER 28, 2008
WITH 30 seconds left of tonight's tie at Farrar Road the Lilywhites had one foot in the semi-finals - then everything changed.
In the fifth minute of injury time Bangor launched one last attack in a bid to equalise. They had been unable to get past a rock solid Rhyl defence but then Les Davies was found in space, drilled a low centre across the six-yard box and super sub Kevin Lloyd scored at the second attempt.
That goal totally changed the complexion of the tie. City were unstoppable in extra time and went on to record a 3-1 victory their never-say-die attitude ultimately deserved.
Yet the home side almost had a flying start when a Kieran Killackey volley thundered against the post in the first minute.
City had settled much the better, Sion Edwards lashing over before in the eighth minute Dave Swanick's ball down the right found Chris Sharp in space, but the ex-Rhyl striker dragged his shot wide with just keeper Lee Kendall to beat.
Gradually Rhyl settled and began to dictate the play although it was not until the 30th minute that they managed a first shot on target.
Mark Connolly crossed from the right and Carl Owen's volley was pushed behind for a corner by Paul Smith.
From the Gareth Owen flag-kick, Carl Owen's diving header was blocked and when the ball was played back into the area Danny Williams headed over.
It was not a total surprise when on 35 minutes a Gareth Owen corner from the left was headed back across the six-yard box by Carl Owen and centre-half GREG STRONG nodded home from close range.
Rhyl continued to look the more threatening at the start of the second period, Strong driving a free-kick inches wide before Williams headed over from an Owen corner.
There were then a series of mystifying bookings for both sides administered by referee Lee Evans who never really got a grip on proceedings and let the game become niggly by refusing to let it flow.
Gareth Owen's free-kick was volleyed wide by Strong at the back post, Williams fired straight at Smith and George Horan was just off target from another Owen delivery. Rhyl were creating the better chances, although none clear cut, and were looking comfortable at the back.
To their credit, Bangor never gave up though and they gradually cranked up the pressure in the closing minutes.
However, that last gasp leveller from LLOYD, who replaced Sharp at half time, was their first on target attempt since that first minute Killackey volley.
Extra time was all about rampant Bangor. Edwards drove inches wide before a Davies volley flew straight at Kendall.
On 103 minutes Rhyl should have scored when lively substitute Jamie Reed took advantage of a defensive slip to advance on goal but with just Smith to beat the striker lacked decisiveness and opted to pass to Gareth Owen who totally miskicked. However, the ball ran to Craig Jones who fired goalwards but the outstanding Peter Hoy was on the line to block.
Rhyl paid dearly as a minute later City won a free-kick just outside the box on the left which was taken quickly by Marc Limbert and EDWARDS netted with a left-foot cracker from 15 yards.
Five minutes into the second period Rhyl's Williams was red-carded for striking out at Limbert, who was booked for a late tackle on the Lilywhites man.
The ensuing free-kick move broke down and LLOYD broke at pace, playing a one-two with Edwards before lashing in number three on 111 minutes. What an impact the ex-Llangefni man had made!
Rhyl had a few late efforts on goal but nothing went their way and it was Bangor and their supporters who celebrated wildly at the final whistle a first League Cup win over Rhyl in 15 attempts and their first victory against the Lilies at Farrar Road in eight starts.

COOKSON CUP ROUND ONE - OCTOBER 25, 2008
JON Stazicker's Welsh Alliance leaders failed to transfer their outstanding league form into knockout competition when they exited the Cookson Cup at the first stage today.
Despite having first team striker Jamie Reed in their line-up, the Lilywhites put in a poor performance against a Rhydymwyn side which thoroughly deserved their win.
"We were absolutely awful," said Stazicker. "We didn't look interested from the word go. Rhydymwyn wanted it more and were the better side."
With skipper Scott Millington (pictured) expected to be out for up to eight weeks after suffering a broken bone in his left foot, as well as having numerous other players either injured or unavailable, Rhyl were not at their strongest, but Stazicker refused to make excuses.
Jamie Jones was forced to make a good early save at his near post from a Richard Whittaker effort and it was against the run of play when Rhyl grabbed a 27th minute lead.
A long ball from Adam France set Mike Roose on his way and Rhyl's top scorer slotted in his 11th goal of the season past Rhyd keeper Danny Stanton.
Five minutes later Rhydymwyn were level when Whittaker drove home a loose ball in the box. Before half time danger man Whittaker also headed against the post from a Jay Hughes cross.
The second half saw no improvement from the Lilies and on 72 minutes poor defending allowed Mark Gunther to fire into the bottom corner.
Kieran Evans was forced to clear off the line before late on Rhyl could have forced extra time but Chris Roberts was off target with a header from a Jack Roberts free-kick.
RHYL: J Jones, Bucknall, France, C Roberts, Morgan, Ahern (Patel 58), Brewerton, J Roberts, Evans, Roose, Reed. Unused subs: T Roberts, Ross.

RHYL senior coach Allan Bickerstaff admits he is looking forward to his first meeting with Bangor City since he took charge of the Lilywhites.
Bickerstaff has led the Lilies to the top of the Welsh Premier and a nine-match unbeaten league run, but knows tomorrow's trip to Farrar Road represents one of Rhyl's toughest tests yet.
"Bangor are on a great run; they're in a decent position in the league, and we're expecting a big test," said Bickerstaff. "It should be a great game in a great atmosphere and we're really looking forward to it."
Rhyl have kept six consecutive clean sheets and have not conceded a goal in 565 minutes of football.
They have also won on their last seven visits to Farrar Road in all competitions, but tomorrow is another day and the Lilywhites will meet a Bangor side in fine form themselves.
Up until Tuesday night, when they played a vastly inexperienced team against Caersws in the League Cup and lost 6-1, City had gone undefeated in 12 matches.
The all-blues currently lie fourth in the Welsh Premier and victory tomorrow would put them level on points with Rhyl.
Injured midfielder Chris Seargeant and ex-Rhyl defender James Brewerton are doubts for tomorrow's game while news is awaited on Lilywhites striker Matthew Williams after he picked up a calf strain playing for the reserves in midweek.
