YOUNG TAKES OVER AT THE BAY

By Dave Jones on Sep 25, 08 12:50 PM

FORMER Rhyl assistant manager Neil Young is the new boss of Unibond League Division One North club Colwyn Bay.
Young was number two to John Hulse at Belle Vue between 2005-07 and played his part in Rhyl winning the Welsh Cup in 2006 and the famous UEFA Cup victory over FK Atlantas of Lithuania in July 2005.
The 33-year-old was forced to quit playing at 24 through injury having worn the colours of Conwy United for two seasons in the League of Wales under Hulse.
Young's first managerial post was at Poulton Victoria and he later became assistant to Ian Doran at Queens Park (Wirral) before joining long-time friend Hulse at Rhyl. After two seasons with the Lilywhites he was reunited with Doran at Cammell Laird, helping the club get promoted to the Unibond Premier.
This season Young had been working alongside new Lairds manager Ken McKenna, but has now decided to have another stab at the management hot seat at Llanelian Road.
"I'm delighted, very excited - I feel like a kid at Christmas," said Young on his appointment.
"I've had the best possible grounding in management having worked with three of the best non-league managers in the area in Ian Doran, John Hulse and Ken McKenna.
"I hope this will stand me in good stead."
The Bay have not made the best of starts to the season, currently lying 14th in Division One and on Saturday they were thrashed 6-1 at Trafford.
"It won't be a case of ripping up and starting again, there are some very good players here, but the club has problems with injuries and suspensions at the moment and I will be bringing in some new faces to freshen things up," said Young.
"I'm not promising a quick fix but I'll do everything in my power to bring success to Colwyn Bay."
Young's assistant at the Bay will be former Tranmere Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Grimsby Town striker Gary Jones.
Neil added he always keeps a keen eye on Rhyl's results and regularly reads Lilywhites Online for the latest club news.
He wishes the Lilywhites all the best for the rest of the season and needless to say Neil, LO wishes you the very best of luck in your new position.
As Neil is a regular reader of Lilywhites Online, your messages of support would be much appreciated.

Neil, just like a Krypton Factor assault course you've taken on a true challenge. Colwyn Bay is a graveyard for managers, they go through them like toothpaste. Last season gary Finley took them to the verge of the play-offs on a skeleton squad and a serious fixture pile up and he got the push. No-one stays at Colwyn Bay long, Neil I hope you will be the exception mate. I was a big fan of yours when you were at Rhyl, I'd like to think you will return here one day. All the best mate, hope to see you do well at the Bay.

I agree with Toss, 'expectations beyond their means' I'm afraid. Gary Finley did a fine job for them along with Adie Jones, Colin Caton all rewarded the same - 'the bullet'. Hope I'm wrong but my money is on Young going the same way and not lasting till the end of season?

agree with comments, some of the hardest supporters to please,a club who think that they are bigger than they are who play in a league on a par with the cymru alliance league.would be better playing in the welsh prem but wont because they know that they would struggle to stay in that league, best manager they have had for a while was aidie jones but they sacked him ,seem to have an obsession when employing their manager that he must have unibond knowledge or watched a unibond game or know someone who has, will give this manager untill christmas if he is lucky, about time they realised that you dont have to be from the north west of england to be a good player plenty of local talent they could use and do a better job
