ROOSE DOUBLE ROUNDS IT OFF

RHYL RESERVES 3 (Hughes 13, Roose 90 & 90)
HALKYN UNITED 0
WELSH ALLIANCE LEAGUE - SEP 5, 2008

TWO injury time goals from Mike Roose put a slightly more realistic look on the scoreline of a game Rhyl should have won by a street.
While visitors Halkyn competed well, Jon Stazicker's side created so many chances they could have hit double figures.
The hosts had three clear opportunities in the sixth minute. Roose and James Hay was denied by a fantastic double save from Halkyn keeper Tony Gandy, then a sublime back-heel by Hay set up Jack Roberts who drilled wide from a great position.
Gandy produced another cracking stop from a Roose rocket on 10 minutes before the home side took a 13th minute lead.
It was a fabulously worked goal. Sean Morgan struck a magnificent pass with the outside of his right foot between two defenders and into the path of Keiron Evans who crossed low across the six-yard box and Gareth Hughes sidefooted into an empty net.
After that Rhyl lost their rhythm and Halkyn imposed themselves more on the game, although they were unable to unduly test home keeper Jamie Jones.
Gareth Hughes had another goal disallowed when referee Peter Barrow overruled his linesman and called offside.
There was a sad sight for Rhyl followers at the start of the second half when Jack Roberts went down in agony and eventually had to be taken on a stretcher to hospital with what looked a serious leg injury. Everyone at the club wishes him well.
Rhyl raised their game and Morgan's brilliant ball put Evans in on goal but he made it far too easy for Gandy.
A minute later Halkyn's offside trap failed them and Hay's through ball sent Hughes clear but he was far too casual and his shot hit the outside of the post.
Moments later United were in serious trouble when substitute Sam Brewerton raced through on goal and keeper Gandy dived at his feet and committed a deliberate handball well outside the area.
It is always unfortunate to see player sent off for this offence but Mr Barrow had to apply the letter of the law and red carded the offender.
Defender Peter Borrowman took over between the sticks but Rhyl did not test him too much until the latter stages.
The hosts should have done better when Morgan freed Roose down the left and Brewerton looked certain to score from his cross but could only find the arms of the grateful stand-in keeper.
While it was still 1-0 Halkyn were not out of the game and they kept trying for an equaliser but nothing really broke for them.
Then six minutes into injury time Hay's cross from the left found Roose in space and last season's top scorer drilled home to make it 2-0.
A minute later new signing from Prestatyn Craig Griffiths released Roose who rounded the advancing Borrowman and slotted left footed into the net.
RHYL: J Jones, Ahern, Millington, Morgan, T Roberts, J Roberts (Brewerton 50), Patel, Hay, Hughes (Griffiths 86), Roose, Evans (France 87).
