LILYWHITES LOSE 100% RECORD

By Dave Jones on Sep 21, 08 02:42 PM

NEATH ATHLETIC 2 (Hill 56, 65 pen)
RHYL 2 (Reed 6, Stones 21)
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE - SEPTEMBER 21, 2008

LEADERS Rhyl let slip a 2-0 advantage and failed to extend their record-breaking opening sequence to six straight wins at The Gnoll yesterday.
This bottom versus top clash looked like following a predictable path when dangerman Jamie Reed fired the Lilywhites in front on six minutes although the scorer looked a tad offside when latching on to a through ball before notching his sixth goal this season.
When a slick 10-man move saw the Lilies increase the margin through a spectacular volley from Greg Stones on 21 minutes it looked like job done.
The visitors had further chances to extend their lead before the interval but failed to take them.
Struggling Neath came out for the second half in fighting mood and in a much sharper performance than they had shown all season clawed their way back into contention with a goal from skipper Andy Hill on 58 minutes, the scorer taking advantage of poor Rhyl defending down the left.
This was only the second league goal conceded by keeper Lee Kendall all season and he was having to pick the ball out of the back of the net a second time when the referee awarded Neath a penalty in the 66th minute for a challenge by Danny Williams on Sean Cronin. The spot-kick was hammered home by Hill.
Neath were now happy to pile men behind the ball and hang on to what they had. Rhyl were drawn into a long ball game and never really threatened to grab a winner.
Rhyl team: Kendall, Connolly, Stones, Strong, Horan, Williams, G Owen, Kelly (C Owen 89), Reed, N Roberts, Johnson (Jones 57). Unused sub: O'Neill.

This ole house once knew his children
This ole house once knew a wife
This ole house was home and comfort
As we fought the storms of life
This old house once rang with laughter
This old house heard many shouts
Now she trembles in the darkness
When the lightnin' walks about

(Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer)
(Ain't a-gonna need this house no more)
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't a-got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend no windowpane
Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
She's a-gettin' ready to meet the saints

This ole house is gettin' shaky
This ole house is gettin' old
This ole house lets in the rain
This ole house lets in the cold
On my knees I'm gettin' chilly
But I feel no fear nor pain
'Cause I see an angel peekin'
Through the broken windowpane

(Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer)
(Ain't a-gonna need this house no more)
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't a-got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend no windowpane
Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
She's a-gettin' ready to meet the saints

This ole house is afraid of thunder
This ole house is afraid of storms
This ole house just groans and trembles
When the night wind flings out its arms
This ole house is gettin' feeble
This old house is needin' paint
Just like me it's tuckered out
But I'm a-gettin' ready to meet the saints

(Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer)
(Ain't a-gonna need this house no more)
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend no windowpane
Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
She's a-gettin' ready to meet the saints

(Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer)
(Ain't a-gonna need this house no more)
Ain't got time to fix the shingles

Coasting, then double whammy! Perhaps give Neath a bit of credit. These things happen, but the disparity between the first and second half performances was alarming. Neath were never going to get a third; but to be frank, neither were Rhyl. On a postive note, Rhyl's second goal was awesome.

Thank you for your invaluable contribution Mr Stevens and good luck with those builders. I am vaguely familiar with your name and ripped-off 1980s re-release of the Stuart Hamblen song first recorded by Rosemary Clooney in 1954. However, could I remind you this is a football blog and future posting of song lyrics will be immediately deleted. As your post was quite bizarre and remotely amusing I will keep it on line, but if you post again with the words to Lipstick, Powder and Paint or Oh Julie I will delete immediately. Just to warn you too, this blog is now fitted with an anti-Shaky device which means even if you post in the wee small hours to catch me napping I will be alerted 24:7 and will immediately zap your contribution.
