WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE - SEP 5, 2008

FOUR wins out of four, 12 goals scored, one conceded and top of the league - no-one could fault the way Rhyl have started their Welsh Premier campaign.
Friday night's victory at Y Traeth was comfortable enough although just like they found at Caernarfon recently, even the bottom sides can raise their game against the Lilywhites.
In a lively start Mark Connolly forced Richard Harvey to turn his low shot around the post, then the Port keeper did well to deny Gareth Owen.
However, after avoiding conceding the expected early goal, Port grew in confidence and on the half hour John Rowley was brought down on the edge of the box and ex-Rhyl striker Marc Lloyd Williams' low free-kick was blocked on the line by Josh Johnson.
Ironically, another break by Rowley led to Rhyl's first goal. When the move broke down a quick thrust gave Danny Williams, having his best game for the Lilies so far, the opportunity to chip a perfectly weighted ball over the defence putting Jamie Reed clear and the striker fired low past Harvey.
Half-time: 0-1.
Port started the second period in determined fashion. Lloyd Williams shot narrowly wide from 25 yards before Kendall's punch denied the WPL's record marksman.
Rhyl rode the storm and gradually got on top. With 74 minutes gone Gareth Owen's corner was worked across to the right and Neil Roberts rose at the back post to head George Horan's cross in from close range, making it five goals this season for the ex-Wrexham striker.
In the final minute substitute Craig Jones was typically in the right place to add a third for Allan Bickerstaff's side.
Rhyl: Lee Kendall, Mark Connolly, Greg Stones, Greg Strong, George Horan, Danny Williams, James Kelly, Gareth Owen, Jamie Reed (Carl Owen 78), Neil Roberts, Josh Johnson (Craig Jones 84). Sub not used: Paul O'Neill. Attendance: 306.

Don't think George is going to be too impressed with all the reports giving credit to Conno for the cross that set up Robbo's goal, when it was quite clearly his.

Another good result and whilst we never hit the stellar hights of the Llanelli one another good performance against a Port side that played with a lot of spirit and fought right to the end
