WILLO REMAINS A LILYWHITE

By Dave Jones on Aug 15, 08 05:59 PM

Gareth WilsonSPECULATION about the future of Rhyl's Gareth Wilson has been quashed with the news the midfielder has signed a new deal with the Lilywhites keeping him at the club until May 2009.
Willo needs just eight more Welsh Premier appearances in a Lilies shirt to break the club record currently held by Timmy Edwards.
Former skipper Edwards has made 226 WPL starts for the Lilywhites while Wilson is on 219. However, with 32 substitute appearances also under his belt, Willo has actually featured in more first team league games for Rhyl than Edwards.
Now in his second spell at Belle Vue, Wilson is the Rhyl's longest serving player in the current squad.
The 30-year-old had experience at Wrexham as a junior and won a WPL championship medal with TNS before he scooped the treble at Rhyl in the 2003/04 season and he has featured in the Champions League, UEFA Cup and Intertoto Cup for the Lilywhites.
He played for Wales under-16s and under-18s, won the Welsh Youth Cup with Wrexham and also represented the Great Britain Students soccer side.

Great news about Willo, a truly fine servant to Rhyl FC. It typifies the man that he wants to stay at the club even though his regular place is under threat as never before. Believe me, Willo will play a part in this season. C'mon folks, leave a tribute or two to Gareth Wilson, a true Lilywhite.

Toss, I've yet to hear 1 disapproving voice about Willo staying. Once the inevitable injuries & suspensions hit, he will undoubtedly play a part.

He's a good lad Willo. Genuine 100%er.

I actually think in the last 12 months he's improved his game, by cutting out the aimless flicks on and attempted 50 yard passes, and cocentrated on what he is good at. WInning the scrapping for the ball and then giving a simple pass.

Hope he gets the testemonial he deserves and its on the back of a 3rd championship medal
