WASTEFUL RESERVES BEATEN BY LATE GOAL
GLAN CONWY 1 (Beardmore 83)
RHYL RESERVES 0
WELSH ALLIANCE LEAGUE - AUG 20, 2008
YET again Glan Conwy proved to be Rhyl's bogey side but last night's game at Cae Ffwt could have been a different story had Jon Stazicker's team accepted their goalscoring chances.
Rhyl looked the more dangerous outfit in the first half, Joe Ahern heading a Jack Roberts free-kick over the bar in the early stages.
Roberts was then brought down on the edge of the box and Mike Roose's free-kick was well saved by the Glan goalkeeper.
Keiron Evans' left foot volley did not miss by much before the hosts threatened, Mally Tidswell firing over and Aled Stapleton forcing Paul Pritchard into a save.
It was end-to-end stuff as James Hay's 20-yarder was fumbled by the keeper who recovered before Roose could snap up the rebound, then just before the break Pritchard smartly kept out a Lee Hughes shot.
The home keeper was again in good form in the second half, thwarting a Roose effort following a fine run down the left by Sam Brewerton.
From a Keiron Evans corner Ahern somehow headed wide - a game-turning moment - then a great move involving Brewerton, Roose and Jack Roberts resulted in the ball coming to Phil Graham whose first time attempt from four yards went wide when he had a chance to take a touch.
Seven minutes from time Rhyl paid the price for their wastefulness when a miskick by keeper Pritchard fell to the opposition and the ball was worked to Chris Beardmore whose shot into the left hand corner decided the game.
Rhyl manager Stazicker said: "It was always going to be a hard game against a good Glan Conwy side but it's all about taking your chances; if we had it could have been a different story.
"It showed how much it meant to the Glan team when they celebrated at full-time as if they'd won the cup. We've not made the best of starts; we should have had three points on Saturday and I would have settled for a point tonight, but it's just one point out of six. We must be better this Saturday at home to Nefyn."
Rhyl: Paul Pritchard, Ben Bucknall, Tom Roberts, Chris Evans, Sean Morgan, Keiron Evans, Jack Roberts, James Hay, Joe Ahern, Gareth Hughes, Mike Roose. Subs: Sam Brewerton, Phil Graham, Craig Hughes, Darren Ross.

as usual completley bias one sided report on last nights game who wrote it the rhyl manager glan conwy more than deserved their victory, usual bitter rhyl manager whats wrong with celebrating a victory, then we should be used to beating rhyl by now,so play your games tuesday and saturday so that you can be top of the league but played 20 more games than every one else at the end of the season you will be nowhere, well done glan conwy
Not sure what that lot was all about, but yet again we used not a single one of the first 18 in the team - possibly the League Cup match was the reason this week. We really need to bridge the gap by integrating or the reserves will be 3 tiers below the first team once WPL 1st division is established - with no chance of progression. Need to win the league and the right for progression to the CA - which will still be 2 tiers below the 1st team.
Ie, llongyfarchiadau Glan Conwy. GC are the obvious favourites to win the league. 5 points nehind already - can't afford to give any more away.
Pritch played, the rest had either played Saturday or the night before
you're spot on there steve, cant believe the report on game at glan conwy, even stevie wonder could see that there was only one team in the game, and it was'nt rhyl, sounds like someone is worried bout losing his job
Nice to get comments from another club - in this case Glan Conwy - on the blog but I think on this occasion you are being a little unfair on Rhyl Reserves manager Jon Stazicker.
I was not at the game so cannot comment personally and yes, Jon did supply me with the information, but I do not agree with your view that the report is totally one-sided.
Jon went to the trouble of finding out the names of some of your players who went close to scoring (something many managers can never be bothered to do), as well as the player who did score, and he refers to you as a good side which he wouldn't do if he was guilty of sour grapes. As for his comment about celebrating after the final whistle, I don't think that is a slant on Glan Conwy but more Jon's belief that teams look upon wins over Rhyl as a good achievement, given the club's history and regular good positions for the reserves in the Welsh Alliance. To me Jon has always been an honest, fair-minded manager who is always quick to praise his team if they do well or state if they are unlucky but he is also not afraid to criticise if they let him down. If he feels his team deserved something from the game against Glan Conwy then that is his view and he has the right to express it, it is a Rhyl blog after all so there will always be a leaning towards the club in question, as is the case with all club sites. The two Glan Conwy supporters have expressed their view too that they fully deserved to win, fair enough, your comments are appreciated too and what's more Lilywhites Online has the utmost respect for Glan Conwy FC and your manager Paul Moroney for what you have achieved.
