HULSE RESIGNS - EXCLUSIVE
JOHN Hulse has resigned as manager of Rhyl Football Club today.
Hulse met senior club officials this morning to hand in his resignation. He contacted Lilywhites Online first with the news shortly afterwards.
Birkenhead-based Hulse spoke to a club senior official last Wednesday to express his wish to resign.
The official asked Hulse to remain in charge until after the two Inter-Toto Cup ties against Irish club Bohemian on June 21 and 28, however following this morning's meeting the resignation comes in with immediate effect.
Hulse first came to Belle Vue in 2001/02 as assistant to Lee Williams. The following season he took over as manager and won the Welsh Premier League Cup.
The following campaign (2003/04) he led the Lilywhites to unprecedented success as the club completed the quadruple, winning the Welsh Premier League championship, Welsh Cup, League Cup and North Wales Coast Challenge Cup.
The season after Rhyl played in Europe for the first time in the club's history, losing over two legs to Skonto Riga in the Champions League qualifiers.
In 2005/06 more success came Rhyl's way as they lifted the Welsh Cup and North Wales Challenge Cup.
In six seasons in charge at Belle Vue, Hulse won seven trophies. Under his leadership, Rhyl have qualified for Europe five seasons in succession. He will go down in history as one of the club's most successful managers ever.
Hulse told Lilywhites Online he is going away for a few days after which he will speak further about his decision.

I'd heard a rumour for a good source that Hulse was due to be replaced this summer so it's not a big shock...
To be honest, it's overdue. Things have gone stale over the past couple of years. The quality of football has been poor, the team have failed to compete against Llanelli and TNS while the likes of Carmarthen and Bangor have closed the gap on us.
The style of football and some of the tactics have been baffling at times. The League Cup final was a case point - why was Michael White not brought on? Hunt and Sharp chased endless long balls when clearly neither player is suited to that type of game. You could see why Hunty would want to leave after a frustrating afternoon like that..
I'll never forget 2004 and how Hulsey helped put Rhyl back on the football map. But the Welsh Prem has moved on and Hulsey's methods seem outdated. A fresh manager with new ideas is what is needed.
Personally I think Osian Roberts would be the best man for the job.
Thanks again for your great service John, we salute you.
HHIS I should have thouhgt of that!
