STOP GRIFFITHS AND WIN THE CUP - HULSE

By Dave Jones on Apr 24, 08 11:24 AM

LLANELLI v RHYL
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE CUP FINAL
SUNDAY 2.30pm (at Latham Park, Newtown)
ALTHOUGH treble-chasing Welsh Premier champions Llanelli are a formidable outfit Rhyl manager John Hulse believes there is one major difference between his team and Peter Nicholas' side - Rhys Griffiths.
The Llanelli goal machine has found the net over 50 times this term and his match-turning wonder strike in the Reds' 5-2 Welsh Cup semi-final victory over the Lilywhites last month typified the form he has been in.
This Sunday the South Walians will be going for a fifth successive win this term over Rhyl when the clubs meet in the League Cup final at Newtown.
The Lilies will be appearing in their fifth final in six seasons - two wins and two losses - while for Llanelli it is the first time they have reached the showpiece stage of this competition.
"I don't believe in bogey sides," said Hulse. "Yes, we've lost to them four times this season but I don't think the gods have smiled on us in any of those games and we didn't disgrace ourselves in any of them.
"I'm quietly confident we can win it. Peter Nicholas always says he knows he's in for a tough game against Rhyl and maybe this time things will go our way.
"The only difference between the sides in my opinion is Rhys Griffiths. If we had a Rhys Griffiths I think we'd have won the championship and all the cups. All due respect, Llanelli are not a one-man band, they have several experienced ex-Football League players in their ranks, but I don't think they'd be half as effective without Griffiths.
"In defenders like George Horan, Paul O'Neill and Carl Ruffer we have players who can deal with him, but anyone who scores over 50 goals in a season is something special."
