HULSE HITS BACK

RHYL manager John Hulse has hit back at criticisms about his selection policy and complaints over players and staff which have left Belle Vue under his tenure.
Speaking exclusively to Lilywhites Online, Hulse said he wanted to set the record straight on comments made on public forums he feels are unfair.
"People are welcome to have their opinions about me, I've no problem with that," said Hulse.
"I'm there to be popped at, but I do feel it's time now to stand up for myself."
Hulse has responded to criticisms on the following issues:
PRESTATYN TOWN PLAYERS WHO HAVE JUST WON THE CYMRU ALLIANCE TITLE BUT WERE FORMERLY AT RHYL - AND SUBSEQUENT CRITICISM OF HULSE FOR LETTING THEM GO
Hulse: "I spoke to all the players who left Rhyl to join Prestatyn individually and they all said virtually the same thing - they couldn't see a way of getting into the first team, so as our reserves couldn't go up, they wanted to play at a higher level (the Cymru Alliance).
"I tried to get all of them to stay but they decided to go. Not one of them left under acromonious circumstances and I am still on good terms with them all."
LAURIE McGUINNESS' DEPARTURE TWICE FROM BELLE VUE AND SUBSEQUENT ARRIVAL AT PRESTATYN TOWN THIS SEASON.
Hulse: "Laurie is an excellent coach, everyone knows that, and if it was up to me he would still be at Belle Vue. The first time he left it was down to a domestic situation and the second time it was down to him changing jobs which would not have allowed him the time to be travelling to South Wales as is the case in the Welsh Premier. On both occasions Laurie chose to leave the club, our relationship is as good now as it ever was."
COMPLAINTS FROM FANS OVER VETERAN GARY POWELL'S RECENT APPEARANCES ON THE FIRST TEAM SUBSTITUTES' BENCH.
Hulse: "I've been hearing complaints about Gary being on the bench and local lads not getting a chance. I've kept quiet on this one, but now I feel it's time to say something.
"Five players from the reserves were asked to undergo medicals so they could be eligible for the Welsh Premier. Two of them were strikers. One, Phil Coffin, has left the club, while the other, Mike Roose failed to turn up for his medical, thus is not eligible to play in the WPL.
"After Dave Cameron and Andy Moran left I had no cover at all so I've had to include Gary on the bench. Anyone who knows Gary will be aware he has been an excellent servant to Rhyl and remains super-fit.
"I hear all this about local lads not getting a chance, well it would make my job a lot easier if I could field more local lads in the side.
"People only need to look at James Brewerton, a Rhyl lad who has made almost 300 appearances for the first team, to realise if local lads are good enough they will get their chance."
CLAIMS THAT HULSE IS NOT UP TO SPEED WITH WHO IS WHO IN THE RESERVES SQUAD.
Hulse: "Since I've been at Rhyl I have worked very closely with four reserves managers - Dave Fuller, Gavin Parry, Simon Sedgwick and Jon Stazicker. It has always been my policy that every player at the club, be he with the reserves or first team, plays for Rhyl Football Club.
"I am very aware of who plays for our reserve side and over the years the reserves have trained with the firsts and reserves players have been in my squads.
"I'm very much enjoying working with current reserves manager Jon Stazicker. It's been like a pools win getting him on board, he's done a fantastic job in difficult circumstances with injuries and alike and what I like about him most is he's honest.
"He's a Rhyl person who puts his heart and soul into the job and I believe he has what it takes to become a Rhyl first team manager in the future."

Great that he has given his comments. Would be good if there was more communication like this.
Bit suprised that Mr Hulse has felt the need to defend himself? Interested indeed in his comments, I see that he wanted the young lads who left for pastures new at Prestatyn and the likes to stay? I would have thought that the best way to assess their capabilities was for them to be given the chance to play i.e Loosemores, Invitation Cup, N.W. Challenge Cup - not a chance! best a couple of them got was to warm the subs bench on a couple of occasions! What I have also found of interesting was his 'hot pursuit of O'Neill (from Bangor City) and White, indeed Mr Hulse rated O'Neill "one of the best centre halves in the Welsh League", Oh dear, how often has he figured? most of his appearances have been at right wing back? As for White, if so much effort was put in to get him to sign for Rhyl, how come its taken half a season for Messrs Hulse and Rowlands to realise his ability? As for the use of Powell towards the end of the season I find farcical, surely if he knew Moran and Cameron were to leave, how come emergency steps were not taken to cover this void even with a possible loan signing? As for being "Up to speed" with the reserves, again I disagree, most fans feel the same as me, Rhyl has become a 'two side club', the first team and the reserves.
Most Rhyl fans agree with you? I bet they don't. All you ever do is knock everything John Hulse does, are you Sossy or Glyn Turner in disguise?
No way is Rhyl a 'two side' club, Jon Staz will confirm how well things have worked with John Hulse this season and visa-versa.
Hulse DID sign cover when Moran and Cameron left - Marc Lloyd Williams who has started banging them in now, and Hulse has already explained by Roose didn't get his chance.
Why hasn't Paul O'Neill been a regular in central defence? Because Horan and Ruffer are better - that's why. Michael White is still to reach his potential, he's good in flashes but makes a lot of mistakes too, I think Hulse has handled him in the right way.
As for the Prestatyn lads who left, they are yet to prove they can shine in the Welsh Prem. Hopefully they will now get their chance and good luck to them, but until they excel at that level they will not have proved Hulse wrong.
Good to hear John's side of things; the bloke has sometimes had some undeserved criticism, when people might not know the full facts behind his decisions.
We might all sometimes wonder why certain things have been done on the pitch, it is only natural and it just shows people's interest in the club. But at the end of the day we must trust his judgement and respect his decisions.
The fact remains that he has got us into Europe for five consecutive seasons which is one hell of an achievement, and one for which he deserves full recognition.
John is the best manager we have had for many, many years. I think it is a good thing that he sometimes puts the record straight on certain issues.
Well said John, How can your management be criticised, when after (soon to be) 5 European Campaigns, various Semi Finals, Finals and Trophies. Enough Said !
Following the success you`ve brought to this club we should be standing by any decision that is made.
Well said Hulsey - think this reiterates the need for a regular Q+A session with club and team officials to keep us 'in the loop'
