ROOSE'S 20TH OF THE SEASON RESCUES POINT
LLANRWST UNITED 1 (Howarth 60)
RHYL RESERVES 1 (Roose 75)
WELSH ALLIANCE LEAGUE
ONLY an outstanding goalkeeping display from Llanrwst's Paul Roberts denied Rhyl all three points at Parc Gwydir on Saturday.
The result leaves the reserves in fourth place in the Welsh Alliance, still in with a decent chance of third with four games to go.
It was a Roberts error that almost presented the visitors with a gift goal after five minutes, however, his kick from the edge of the box only falling to Sam Shorrocks who fired wide of an empty net.
Craig Garside fed a fine ball into the path of Mike Roose who had just the goalkeeper to beat, but his sidefoot shot was pushed around the post by Roberts.
From another Lilywhites flag-kick a game of pinball left the visitors in disbelief that they failed to score, then Roberts was at his best again to deny Alec Williams.
Scott Millington crossed from the left, Tom Roberts' effort was blocked and Williams' attempt was cleared off the line.
It was all Rhyl as Roberts lashed over from a corner four yards out and Phil Coffin's piledriver was tipped away by the Rwsters shot-stopper. Somehow the interval arrived with a 0-0 scoreline.
The second half saw fewer chances and against the run of play the Rwsters took the lead on the hour when keeper John Gann dropped a cross from the right at the feet of Deian Howarth who slotted in from two yards.
Back came Rhyl, and on 75 minutes from a free-kick, Coffin flicked on to Roose who blasted into the top corner from close range for his 20th goal of the season.
Rhyl: Gann, Jones, Millington, France, T Roberts, Garside, Williams, J Brewerton, Roose, Coffin, Shorrocks. Subs: S Brewerton, Stazicker.
