RESERVES LOSE GRIP ON BARRITT CUP

AMLWCH TOWN 4 (Burgess 12, 70; Roberts 18; Mason 59)
RHYL RESERVES 3 (S Brewerton 30, 40; Roose 89)
BARRITT CUP QUARTER FINALS

RHYL Reserves' season is effectively over after they were knocked out of the Barritt Cup competition they won last year.
It was a hugely disappointing exit for Jon Stazicker's men at Amlwch, but in fairness they were without seven regulars.

James Brewerton, Craig Garside, Sean Morgan, Owen Jones, Andy Booker, Joe Ahern and Phil Coffin were all absent for the Lilywhites, who were forced to play first-choice keeper John Gann at left-back, while Stazicker, who rarely turns out nowadays, became an emergency right-back.
Amlwch had lost 7-0 at home to Conwy United in the Welsh Alliance League two days earlier, but they were level at 0-0 and on top until their keeper was sent off after 29 minutes.
It was the islanders, beaten twice by Rhyl in the league this term, who went ahead on 12 minutes when James Burgess finished off from six yards.
Six minutes later it was 2-0 when Alun Roberts volleyed home a cross from the right past keeper Jamie Jones.
Back came Rhyl and on the half hour Sam Brewerton's cross-cum-shot caught the wind and sailed into the net.
Five minutes before the break Brewerton slid in to meet a Scott Millington cross to make it 2-2.
And Rhyl could have gone in ahead but Mike Roose's effort hit the inside of the post and the ball rolled along the goal-line but unfortunately not over it.
After the break Amlwch raised their game and on 59 minutes they went back in front with a bullet header by top scorer Steve Mason.
In the 70th minute the islanders moved 4-2 ahead when Burgess grabbed his second as he beat the offside trap to fire beyond Jones.
Rhyl rallied but it was not until the 89th minute that they managed a consolation - Roose nabbing his 21st goal of the season with a tight angle finish.
