RESERVES PRODUCE SEASON'S BEST
RHYL RESERVES 4 (Roose 29, 61; D Hughes 76; Williams 84)
GLAN CONWY 1 (Davies 42)
BARRITT CUP ROUND TWO
SUBSTITUTE Alec Williams topped off a man of the match performance with a late 30-yard screamer which secured a best win of the season for the Reserves.
Manager Jon Stazicker was the proudest man in Rhyl after his team overcame a Glan Conwy side they had lost to twice already this season in the league.
Rhyl now advance to the Barritt Cup quarter-finals where they travel to Amlwch Town this Saturday. If they win that one they will host Rhydymwyn in the semis.
John Gann had been the busier of the two keepers before in the 29th minute the Lilywhites took the lead, Mike Roose finishing off a Dave Cameron cross from six yards.
Roose and Andy Booker were denied by Glan keeper Aaron Peel, but then on 42 minutes Gareth Davies knocked in a Ross Holcroft-Jones cross to make it all square at half time.
The hosts were transformed in the second half with substitute Williams, who replaced the injured Joe Ahern on 44 minutes, a revelation.
Williams made a fantastic tackle to deny Glan on the break before in the 53rd minute Booker was only denied by a superb Peel save from a Phil Coffin free-kick.
In the 61st minute the home side regained the lead when a long clearance by Kevin Hughes was latched on to by Roose who chipped the advancing keeper for his 18th goal of the campaign.
Gann produced another good stop from Holcroft-Jones but in the 76th minute Canadian-raised Wales under-21 international Dylan Hughes celebrated his debut goal for Rhyl from close range.
Then six minutes from time came the moment Belle Vue was waiting for as the inspirational Williams hit goal number four with an unstoppable 30-yard strike.
The referee played seven minutes of injury time and Glan missed two golden opportunities in that period, but this was Rhyl's day.
RHYL: Gann, Morgan, K Hughes, France, T Roberts, J Roberts (S Brewerton 83), Ahern (Williams 44), D Hughes, Cameron (Coffin 45), Roose, Booker. Att:90.
** It was fantastic to see loyal Rhyl supporter IAN JOHNSON back at Belle Vue today after a number of weeks away through illness. Anyone who knows Ian will be only too aware how much he hates to miss a Rhyl game, so he was delighted to return to the ground he has graced religiously since 1984 this afternoon.
Although a bit exhausted by the experience as he finds his feet again, Ian thoroughly enjoyed the match - and what a game to return to! Ian hopes to be at next week's Welsh Cup tie against GAP Queens Park but is sensibly taking each day as it comes. All the best Ian.
