HAVER GO AT US LADS!

By Dave Jones on Jan 26, 08 02:02 AM

RHYL manager John Hulse hopes today's opponents Haverfordwest County will approach the game at Belle Vue like Caernarfon Town did last week.
Hulse was full of praise for the Canaries after they looked to match the Lilywhites in the football stakes in a game that ended 3-1 to Rhyl.

The Lilies chief watched Haverfordwest draw 2-2 with Carmarthen in midweek and liked what he saw.
"They are a lively side, try to play it on the deck. I hope they come to Belle Vue to play like Caernarfon did and not look to defend and hit on the break like so many teams which come here do."
Rhyl will be without suspended 18-goal top scorer Lee Hunt, but County will also be missing their leading marksman, Jack Christopher having received a four-game ban for getting red carded against Carmarthen. It means Christopher will also miss next Saturday's Welsh Cup clash at New Bridge Meadow.
Hulse has mixed feelings about playing the same opposition back-to-back.
"It gives us a chance to look at them, but it's also visa-versa."
Rhyl will still be without the injured Gareth Wilson, Jimmy Kelly and James Brewerton, but a late fitness check will be made on defender Carl Ruffer who has not trained this week after missing the Caernarfon victory through flu. New signing Greg Stones will be available.
If Rhyl can create the amount of chances today that they did earlier in the season in a 1-1 draw at Bridge Meadow, then it is unlikely the Lilywhites will let their opponents off the hook twice.
That game back in September was one of the most one-sided draws imaginable as the Lilies squandered endless opportunities to kill off the Bluebirds.
After a barren spell, Rhyl have started to rattle in the goals again of late, notching 14 in their last five matches.
Derek Brazil's side have not pulled up any trees this term, but neither have they struggled. Their best performance was probably a 3-2 win at Aberystwyth on Boxing Day.
County have lost several key players to more fashionable clubs this season including the prolific Tim Hicks, who joined Carmarthen, and of course their outstanding goalkeeper Lee Kendall, who is now a Rhyl player.
Since the 1994/95 season Rhyl and Haverfordwest have met 21 times in the WPL, the Lilywhites leading by 10 wins to five with six draws.
