RECORD WIN FOR RHYL AGAINST NOMADS

By Dave Jones on Dec 26, 07 09:56 PM

CONNAH'S QUAY NOMADS 0
RHYL 5 (Sharp 14, Hunt 39, 89; Jones 67, Cameron 86)
RUTHLESS Rhyl romped to their biggest ever Welsh Premier win over Connah's Quay at Deeside Stadium this afternoon.
Although the Lilywhites produced the goods in front of goal, however, it must be said this was probably the poorest Nomads side Rhyl have faced since they entered this league in 1994/95.

Jim Hackett's side did not manage a single shot on target in the 90 minutes and were fortunate to escape a double-figure thrashing.
From the opening whistle the hosts were on the backfoot and after just six minutes Nomads defender Ben Alston headed inches over his own bar from a Stuart Graves free-kick.
The deadlock was broken in the 14th minute with a superb length of the field move.
Rhyl won a free-kick outside their own box, Carl Ruffer quickly played the ball to Matthew Holt on the left and he found Andy Moran.
Spotting Craig Jones on the overlap, Moran slid the ball to the Lilies speedster and his cross to the back post was headed down brilliantly into the far corner by Chris Sharp.
There were a few other close calls before on 39 minutes George Horan found Jones on the right and another tremendous centre was met by Lee Hunt whose header proved too powerful for Quay keeper Paul Pritchard.
Ironic cheers could be heard just before the interval when Chris Melia hit Nomads' first shot on goal - and it was well off target.
Early in the second half, Nomads defender Tommy Baker presented the ball to Hunt who raced clear on goal, but in trying to switch to his right foot, the Rhyl striker was dispossessed because of that moment's hesitation by the back-tracking Baker.
Nomads' nearest call came on 53 minutes when Holt bizarrely chipped his own keeper Lee Kendall and the ball went inches wide.
The visitors made it 3-0 in the 67th minute when a high and hopeful hoist by Gareth Wilson was headed on by Hunt and Moran played a lovely cushioned pass into the path of Jones who finished in style from eight yards.
The pressure was relentless as a Wilson free-kick was cleared at the last gasp when netbound, Paul O'Neill headed just over and Hunt was picked out by substitute Dave Cameron at the back post but sliced wide.
In a rare attack, Nomads' Mark Cadwallader's chip just cleared the bar before the 86th minute brought a fourth Rhyl goal.
Horan met Wilson's corner with a powerful header which Pritchard parried out, but Cameron was on hand to convert from two yards.
A minute from time Wilson played a neat ball over the Nomads defence and Hunt deftly chipped the advancing Pritchard for his 16th goal of the season.
RHYL (with performance marks): Kendall 7, Holt 8, O'Neill 8, Sharp 8, Horan 8, Ruffer 8, Jones 8 (White 77), WILSON 9, Hunt 8, Moran 7 (Cameron 70), Graves 7 (Booth 70).
