December 2007 Archives

Brownskill (verb): the art of cajoling a painful errant turd out of one's anus without breaking the net.
A belated Merry Christmas folks and in advance a Happy New Beer. Rumours of me being eaten by a shark in feisty waters off the coast of Bangor are untrue; my recent absence is down to a temporary ban from Lilywhites Online due to a minor dispute, nothing more.
I have been admitted back to share with you more fun and frolics in 2008 on the proviso I do not sail too close to the mark (Dave's request).

IT has been an up and down year for Rhyl FC. No trophies for the first team, but some great results and an unforgettable European experience.
Lilywhites Online rates the top 10 moments for the club over the past 12 months.

CONNAH'S QUAY NOMADS 0
RHYL 5 (Sharp 14, Hunt 39, 89; Jones 67, Cameron 86)
RUTHLESS Rhyl romped to their biggest ever Welsh Premier win over Connah's Quay at Deeside Stadium this afternoon.
Although the Lilywhites produced the goods in front of goal, however, it must be said this was probably the poorest Nomads side Rhyl have faced since they entered this league in 1994/95.

CONNAH'S QUAY NOMADS v RHYL
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE
BOXING DAY 2.30pm
NONE of the five key players who missed Rhyl's defeat at Llanelli on Saturday are likely to be back for Wednesday's visit to the Deeside Stadium.
Mark Connolly, who was injured in training in the week leading up to the Stebonheath Park clash, and Chris Roberts, hurt in the 0-0 draw at Carmarthen on December 15, both need more time to recover, while longer-term casualties Craig Garside, Jimmy Kelly and James Brewerton are still some way off full fitness.

GRIFFITHS DOUBLE SINKS THE LILIES

LLANELLI 2 (Griffiths 66 pen, 71)
RHYL 1 (Hunt 34)
IT looked promising for Rhyl at half time when they held a 1-0 lead, but then a familiar name turned things around after the break.
Llanelli's prolific marksman Rhys Griffiths netted a second half double to further damage the Lilywhites' fast-fading title ambitions.

MAGNIFICENT SEVEN FOR RESERVES

By Dave Jones on Dec 22, 07 06:36 PM

RHYL RESERVES 7 (Booth 2 pens, 24, 36; Roose 30, 48; Booker 39, 68; Morgan 51)
HALKYN UNITED 3 (Abraham 45, 76; Connolly 90)
THERE was a tremendous pre-Christmas goals fest for the sparse crowd at Belle Vue, and although Rhyl got the better of it full credit to 10-man Halkyn for giving their all.
The game ended as a contest on 35 minutes when with the Lilywhites 2-0 up, United keeper Tony Gandy was red carded for hacking down Mitchell Booth when he was through on goal.

ULTIMATE TEST AWAITS LILYWHITES

By Dave Jones on Dec 21, 07 03:11 PM

LLANELLI v RHYL
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE
WITHOUT a league win over Llanelli in six attempts, Rhyl would dearly love to end that sequence this Saturday at Stebonheath Park, kick-off 2.30pm.
Victory would revive the Lilywhites’ title challenge, but defeat could all but scupper it with the top two pulling away from the pack.

KELLY INJURY SETBACK

By Dave Jones on Dec 17, 07 09:46 PM

RHYL midfielder Jimmy Kelly has suffered a setback in his bid to regain full fitness.
Kelly made his much-awaited return for the first team after several weeks on the sidelines in last Tuesday’s 3-0 North Wales Challenge Cup win over Holyhead Hotspur.

CRACKING WIN FOR RESERVES

By Dave Jones on Dec 15, 07 08:55 PM

RHYL RESERVES 3 (Booker 2, France 69, T Roberts 85)
LLANRUG UNITED 0
LESS than 48 hours after losing at Conwy United, Rhyl bounced back in style with a fine win over a very capable Llanrug side at Belle Vue today.
The Lilywhites were boosted by the inclusion of first team squad regulars Craig Garside and Michael White, but the star of the show was goalkeeper Jamie Jones, who saved a penalty and made numerous other fine stops in this exciting contest.

MORAN PENALTY MISS PROVES COSTLY

By Dave Jones on Dec 15, 07 04:36 PM

CARMARTHEN TOWN 0
RHYL 0
BEFORE kick-off Rhyl manager John Hulse might have considered a point at in-form Carmarthen more than acceptable, but after his team dominated for the best part of 90 minutes at Richmond Park, the Lilywhites boss was left feeling deflated.
A frustrating day for the Lilies was summed up by a very rare penalty miss from top scorer Andy Moran in the first half.
