MORAN HAT-TRICK EASES RHYL THROUGH

By Dave Jones on Nov 27, 07 09:39 PM

LLANGEFNI TOWN 2 (Kevin Lloyd 65, Chris Evans 88)
RHYL 5 (Andy Moran 30, 68, 82; Mark Connolly 58; Chris Roberts 70)
LOOSEMORES LEAGUE CUP QUARTER-FINALS
ANDY Moran's hat-trick helped Rhyl advance to the semi-finals of the League Cup at the expense of the Welsh Premier's bottom club tonight.
Aiming to reach the final of this competition for the fifth time in six seasons, the Lilywhites were good value for their win, especially on their dynamic second half performance.

In a turgid first half, the visitors took the lead on the half hour when Chris Sharp went up to meet a long free kick from keeper Lee Kendall and the ball arrived at the feet of Moran who poked home beyond stranded custodian Simon Williams from six yards.
Soon after Mark Connolly had an effort cleared off the line, the ball hit Moran, but failed to find the net.
After the break Rhyl were much more fluent as an attacking force and displayed the gulf in class between the sides.
In the 58th minute Chris Roberts crossed from the byeline and Connolly scored with a sublime looping volley which gave Williams no chance.
Kevin Lloyd pulled one back for Cefni on 65 minutes after good work on the right from Chris Jones, but within three minutes the Lilies were 3-1 ahead.
A 40-yard pass was struck out to Craig Jones on the wing and his cracking cross was headed in by Moran who had made a lung-busting run from halfway to meet the ball.
On 71 minutes a rare burst of pace down the right by Dave Cameron resulted in a cross to the near post where Moran received and squared to Roberts who drilled into the bottom left hand corner on his comeback from a three-match suspension.
Eight minutes later substitute Michael White's fierce hit was kept out by Williams and the New Zealander went for the rebound along with Moran. Both could easily have made connection at the same time, but it was Moran who wheeled away claiming his hat-trick.
Llangefni notched a late consolation through Chris Evans, but it was all to no avail.
RHYL: Kendall, Jones, Holt, Connolly (Booth 72), Horan, O'Neill, Wilson (White 70), Roberts, Sharp (Cameron 70), Moran, Graves.
Attendance: 258.

Substituted after 70 minutes, continues to impress on his comeback

It is fine feasting on poor teams like Caersws and Llangefni but when they take on the top sides Rhyl go missing, I won't get excited until I see us thrashing Llanelli, TNS or Bangor.

i'm glad the game wasn't on tomorrow as I wouldnt have gone, I can't miss seeing Cracklin Rosie on Coronation Street

good result but i'd much rather us have done that to Bangor than crappy Llangefni

I definately don't think its fair that Moran is claiming that 3rd goal Michael White clearly scored.
