ONE POINT - BUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THREE

By Dave Jones on Sep 22, 07 05:29 PM

HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY 1 (Woodrow 49)
RHYL 1 (Moran 60)
WASTEFUL Rhyl incurred the wrath of manager John Hulse after they missed a host of chances to take the three points at New Bridge Meadow.
With leaders Llanelli surprisingly dropping two points at home to lowly Caersws, the Lilywhites had the ideal opportunity to turn up the pressure on Peter Nicholas' side, but the lack of a killer instinct in front of goal which has plagued them this season haunted them again.

"I know players don't miss chances on purpose but that was pathetic," blasted Hulse on S4C's Clwb Pel Droed programme.
"Schoolboys of under eight would have been disappointed with that finishing today."
The Lilies had a chance straight from the kick-off when Dave Cameron headed a Stuart Graves long ball into the path of Craig Jones who drilled just wide.
In a fairly even first half, Rhyl went close again when George Horan's header was tipped over by back pedalling keeper Lee Idzi.
The visitors stayed on top at the start of the second period, but then against the run of play Tom Ramasut sent a great ball over the top of the Lilywhites' defence, and Nick Woodrow pounced to round ex-Haver keeper Lee Kendall and give his team the lead.
Rhyl equalised when substitute Andy Moran, who replaced the injured Craig Garside on 36 minutes, turned on a loose ball and drove home left-footed from 20 yards on the hour.
After that it was all Rhyl, but Jones fired wide from an acute angle and Cameron shot goalwards, but the weakness of his effort enabled Phil Cattlin to clear off the line.
Late on Mark Connolly was through with only the keeper to beat, but his attempted lob missed the target.
RHYL: Kendall, Jones, Roberts, O'Neill (Holt 74), Horan, Ruffer, Wilson, Garside (Moran 36), Cameron (Coffin 79), Wilson, Graves.

In the last few games the emphasis has been on packing the midfield and creating chances. But these players breaking from midfield are not natural finishers. It's not just an off-day of bad finishing, it's a pattern by now.
