RHYL AIM FOR NINE STRAIGHT WINS AGAINST BANGOR

By Dave Jones on Aug 20, 07 09:58 PM

BANGOR CITY v RHYL
LEAGUE CUP GROUP STAGE - TUESDAY, AUGUST 21, 7.30pm
TOMORROW night the Lilywhites will aim to make it nine wins in a row against Bangor when these arch rivals clash at Farrar Road in the League Cup.
Rhyl will be buoyed by a superb performance in their opening league game - a 2-1 victory against Carmarthen which could easily have been a 10-1 triumph - while City will also be encouraged by their come from behind 2-2 draw at Newtown on Saturday.

It remains to be seen what sort of side John Hulse puts out at Farrar Road with his in-depth squad all chomping at the bit to get a piece of the action, but the Lilies manager insists the League Cup is a competition he takes very seriously.
"It is one of only three cups (excluding the North Wales Challenge) we play in, so all these knockout competitions are vitally important," said Hulse.
"We'll be looking to have a good run in this cup which we've done well in in recent seasons, reaching four finals in five years and winning two of them."
Hulse will come up against old adversary Nev Powell, who took over as Bangor manager in the summer after 14 years in charge of Connah's Quay Nomads. In recent times, Hulse has very much had the better of Powell, but the past or the form book often counts for little in local derbies.
City are set to lock horns with former skipper Paul O'Neill, who signed for Rhyl less than a fortnight ago, while ex-Lilywhites now in the Bangor ranks include Marc Limbert, Paul Smith, Tommy Mutton, Peter Hoy and Michael Walsh.
