NARROW WIN FOR RESERVES
HALKYN UNITED 1 (Abraham 80)
RHYL RESERVES 2 (Roose 51, Booth 60 pen)
ALTHOUGH not as impressive as in their opening day win at Pwllheli, Rhyl still had enough firepower to claim another three points at Pant Newydd on Tuesday.
After a goal-less first-half, the Lilywhites were 2-0 up by the hour mark courtesy of Mike Roose and Mitchell Booth, and although Halkyn nabbed an 80th minute consolation, it was the visitors who took the spoils.
It took Rhyl a good 25 minutes to find their rhythm, but from that point Phil Coffin was a major threat, turning sharply and firing wide before he rounded the keeper and shot for goal but the ball was seemingly handled by covering defender Anthony Mee only for the referee to decide otherwise.
Coffin's 25-yard free kick was superbly saved, Alec Williams drove just wide and Roose missed a great opportunity before the interval.
Six minutes into the second-half the away side edged in front. Williams and Coffin combined to find Roose who turned and lashed into the roof of the net.
On the hour mark, Sam Brewerton released Roose who was brought down in the box and Booth put away the resulting penalty.
Carl Butler headed just off target for Halkyn, before Roose had an effort saved and Williams shot wide.
Ten minutes from time, United pulled one back when Jack Abraham hit a loose ball on the volley from 30 yards and it flew between the posts.
Rhyl held on comfortably for their second successive away win and this Saturday travel to Welsh Alliance newcomers Amlwch Town of Anglesey.
