COFFIN DOUBLE BURIES DYRNY
LLANDYRNOG UNITED 1 (Slater)
RHYL RESERVES 2 (Coffin 2)
PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
TWO goals from close season signing Phil Coffin ensured Jon Stazicker and James Ainsworth's first match in charge of Rhyl Reserves was a winning one.
Taking on a strong Cymru Alliance side on their own ground, the Lilywhites clinched victory with a goal in each half.
Coffin, 23, who joined Rhyl from West Cheshire League club Poulton Victoria last month, broke the deadlock when he capitalised on a Dyrny mistake at the back to score from a tight angle.
United equalised in the second-half when Jon Slater, who turned out for Rhyl a couple of times last season, rose at the back post to head in a right-wing cross.
But the visitors sealed it when Mitchell Booth was fouled outside the area and Coffin lashed in a free-kick before the keeper could move.
Rhyl had other chances, last season's top scorer Mike Roose miskicking from close range and firing another opportunity off target.
* Rhyl Reserves begin their Welsh Alliance campaign with a trip to Pwllheli on August 18.
