HULSE - PLAYERS WILL BE FIRED UP FOR LLANELLI
RHYL manager John Hulse knows there will be no need to motivate his players when they take on Llanelli at Belle Vue tomorrow (Tuesday).
Hulse said the team will not only have the incentive of requiring just a point to secure a UEFA Cup spot - they will also be ultra keen to wipe out the memories of a 6-0 loss at Stebonheath Park back in September.
Peter Nicholas' Llanelli are the only team which can deprive the Lilywhites of runners-up, but to do so they would need to beat Rhyl tomorrow then defeat Porthmadog in their final match, and hope the Lilies lose their last fixture at Connah's Quay on Friday.
Rhyl are in the driving seat and they will be going all out to make second place theirs when they face the Reds tomorrow night.
"Llanelli are a good side, they had a big two-month blip when they went eight league games without a win, but they are back to their best now, winning seven of their last eight," commented Hulse.
"I know the players will want to put things right after the 6-0 defeat at their place.
"That game was never a 6-0, everything went their way, we missed two easy chances and had a 100% penalty turned down before they scored, then had James Brewerton controversially sent off. Having said that, Llanelli took their chances and could have won by more.
"I think it's a tremendous feat that we've already qualified for Europe for a fourth successive season when you consider we are competing against some strong teams and two full-time clubs in TNS and Llanelli, but to make the UEFA Cup again would be the icing on the cake."
Defender Chris Roberts, who was available for selection for the Caersws game on Saturday following an injury lay-off but did not make the final 14, comes into contention for the Llanelli test, as does goalkeeper John Gann. Reserves skipper Mitchell Booth also comes into the squad.
However, Stuart Graves is very doubtful as he has not fully recovered from the knee injury suffered in the Loosemores Challenge Cup final defeat to Caersws last month.
