REVENGE ON RESERVES' MINDS

By Dave Jones on Mar 23, 07 01:33 AM

REVENGE will be on the minds of Rhyl Reserves when they take on Llanrug United in a Pentraeth Honda Barritt Cup quarter-final at Belle Vue this Saturday (March 24).
Earlier this month, Simon Sedgwick's side were thrashed 4-1 at Llanrug in the Cookson Cup semi-finals - the Lilywhites first defeat in 26 matches.

That proved a very painful day for Rhyl as they missed out on a repeat of last season's Cookson final against holders Denbigh Town.
Llanrug have been a bogey side for the Lilies this season as the Caernarfon-area team also gained a 2-2 draw at Belle Vue in a Welsh Alliance League fixture back in October.
Aled Owen's charges have made a habit of upsetting the odds this term. They became the first team to defeat Denbigh Town in the league this season when they ran out 3-1 winners at Central Park in November.
It is difficult on first glance to fathom out why Llanrug lie only eighth in the Welsh Alliance, but a closer look at their record reveals they have games in hand on all teams above them and if they were to win some of those their position would be much higher.
United have lost just three of their 19 matches to date, but there are also eight draws on their log which has cost them points.
The Llanrug side is packed with goals, Gareth Griffiths (17), Terry Williams (14), David Noel Williams (14) and Carl Griffiths (13) their leading marksmen.
But despite the fact they have lost two of their last four games, Rhyl remain the team to beat in the WAL.
Sedgwick's men have lost just three out of 30 matches in all competitions this term and notched 103 goals in the process.
In Mike Roose (25 goals) and Ian Dunn (17) they boast one of the best striking partnerships in the league.
Rhyl will be anxious to go one better than last season and win the Barritt Cup, having lost 1-0 to Denbigh in the 2006 final.
Sedgwick will hopefully have a very strong pool to choose from, with Rhyl's first team playing on Friday night meaning some of the senior squad might be available for this Saturday's tie at Belle Vue which kicks off at 2.30pm.
