MORONEY BACKS DENBIGH FOR THE TITLE

By Dave Jones on Mar 28, 07 10:12 PM

GLAN Conwy manager Paul Moroney believes Denbigh Town can pip Rhyl Reserves to the Welsh Alliance League championship.
Despite seeing his team lose 2-1 at Belle Vue on Tuesday night, Moroney thinks the title is heading for Central Park.

Rhyl's victory over Glan Conwy stretched their lead at the top to five points, but Denbigh have three games in hand. Town's title run-in includes a visit to Glan Conwy on April 7.
"It's going to be difficult for Rhyl now after Sealand dropped out as they lost six points and Denbigh only lost three," said Moroney.
"I think Denbigh are the better side. We've lost to Rhyl twice this season, but I felt we deserved something out of the game against them last night (Tuesday).
"I think it's going to be very close and Denbigh have still got to come to us. If that game was at Denbigh I'd definitely fancy them to do it (win the title), but they're not going to be too keen to play on our little pitch and if we can get something against them it will be very interesting.
"Overall, I think Denbigh will just win it, but it's definitely between them and Rhyl now."
Moroney is enjoying plenty of success himself in his first season as manager of Glan Conwy.
His young team has reached the FAW Trophy Final and are performing well in the league.
Moroney was formerly manager of Rhyl Youth and assistant boss of Rhyl Reserves. Last season he had a stint as Rhuddlan Town joint manager.
