HUNT COULD HOLD THE KEY

By Dave Jones on Mar 21, 07 09:29 PM

RHYL'S top scorer Lee Hunt could hold the key to the Lilywhites' chances of a morale-boosting victory at NEWI Cefn Druids this Friday night (March 23).
Plaskynaston has been a happy-hunting ground for the 16-goal striker, who has netted five times on his last three visits there.

In the 2004/05 season, Hunt grabbed a hat trick in a 3-0 triumph, then last term he scored in the 1-1 league draw and the 5-3 Welsh Cup round four win at Druids.
The Liverpudlian hitman must regard the Ancients as one of his favourite opponents as in five meetings with them he has collected seven goals.
Rhyl are on a nine-match unbeaten run in the league against Dixie McNeil and Graham Jones' side, but have not defeated them in their last three attempts.
Back in November, the teams drew 2-2 at Belle Vue in a game where the Lilies were somewhat fortunate to get a point.
James Taylor headed Druids into a second-minute lead, but Hunt levelled on the stroke of half-time.
Osian Jones put the visitors back in front on 64 minutes and it was only a messy injury-time equaliser from Dave Cameron that earned John Hulse's men a share of the spoils.
Last season Rhyl were also held 1-1 by Cefn at home, Gareth Barton heading a 90th minute equaliser after Gary Powell had handed the Lilywhites a first-half lead.
In the return at Plaskynaston, Rhyl led 1-0 through Hunt, but Andrew Edgar restored parity eight minutes from time and that's how it stayed.
Rhyl have not lost at Druids since the 2001/02 season, but they will feel a success over the Ancients is long overdue this Friday.
The teams have locked horns 15 times since Druids joined the League of Wales in 1999/2000, Rhyl boasting eight wins, Cefn four and there have been three draws.
Hulse's side need three points to maintain their hold on second place in the Welsh Premier and boost their chances of qualification for Europe for a fourth season in succession.
Friday's match will mark the first reunion between Rhyl and former skipper Timmy Edwards since the gentle giant joined the Druids in December.
Centre-half Edwards lifted seven trophies in four seasons as Lilies captain and remains the club's record appearance maker in the WPL (225 + 3).
